Product Description

She wants the truth, but it may cost her more than she thinks...

An ex-patriot-American living in England, magazine reporter Casey Rowan wakes to find one best friend murdered and another seriously injured. Casey is determined to find the killer, despite running afoul of the detective in charge of the case—a blue-eyed Scot named Rod Carlisle, who considers her a prime suspect. As Casey gets closer to the truth, losing her heart to the sexy cop isn’t the only thing she risks. Now her life is danger, too.

He wants her, but he may have to choose between love and duty...

Rod has no patience with civilians who interfere in police matters, even hot little numbers like Casey. Though he tries to keep things professional, Casey’s beauty and spunk are hard to resist. He warns her that what she’s doing is dangerous, but he only succeeds in alienating her. She refuses to listen and goes off on her own with disastrous results. Now Rod’s in a race to find the killer before the woman he loves becomes the next victim.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Romantic Murder Mystery! 24 May 2012

Maggi Andersen's Murder In Devon is a great mysterious murderous suspense story that will instantly capture you with the prologue and hold you until the very last page. From start to finish, you get the thrills of mystery and twists of suspense as you follow the English detectives and Casey on a ride of who-dun-it's and why are they still wanting to do it to Casey.

After a breakup in America that left Casey Rowan down and depressed, she returned to England to stay with her two best friends, Don and Tessa. What she found the next morning was not something anyone should ever have to encounter. One friend dead, and another rushed to the hospital to be saved, Casey can't understand who or why someone would do this to her loving best friends. After a breakup like she had and now this, what's next for this journalist?

Detective Chief Inspector Rod Carlisle enters the picture and can't help but wonder why Casey is really there. And, piecing pieces to the puzzle together, he can't help but think of her as the only person capable at the time of murdering her best friend. Was it a murderous love triangle? Was it jealousy? What caused her best friend to be murdered and another left for dead? And why can't he stop feeling the attraction to the beautiful journalist?

Casey won't stop until she knows who killed her best friend and left her other one for dead. Even when her life is threatened and she becomes a target. Will her attraction to the handsome Scotsman detective help her......or hinder her?

This was definitely a 4 Book worthy book, and one that I highly recommend to all who love a great murder mystery! With twists, turns and romance, this book will keep you captivated and on the edge of your seat! Well done, Ms. Andersen!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great setting. Suspense with many plot twists. 22 April 2012

Ex-pat American journalist Casey Rowan is staying with good friends Tessa and Don Broughton at their Devon cottage when Don, a BBC program host, is murdered. His wife's life hangs by a thread, and she remains unconscious in the Royal Devon Hospital for several days. Even when she regains consciousness, she is unable to tell Casey or the police any details which might help.

Detective Chief Inspector Rod Carlisle is assigned the case but seems to be getting nowhere. Casey decides she must do whatever it takes to find out who killed Don, and she learns quickly enough that her sleuthing services are not wanted by the handsome DCI. She wants the truth at whatever cost and sets out to pursue all leads.

Casey is at first considered a prime suspect by Carlisle. Eventually, she is cleared. Meanwhile, Casey and Carlisle find themselves in a dilemma. They are attracted to one another. Carlisle tries to keep things professional but they end up sharing a night of passion. Carlisle warns her off the case but she's determined to find the killer. Her persistence nearly ends with disastrous results.

Murder in Devon is fast-paced and has many twists and turns, and more than a few suspects. Andersen's writing is visual, and her sense of place superb. Kudos on a well-researched story and well-developed characters.

Any quibbles I had are minor, however I'd be remiss if I didn't note them. Casey's decision to track down her friend's killer seemed to come without the requisite amount of careful thought so it was hard to empathize with her determination to locate clues. In a couple of places, she puts herself in danger searching but makes miraculous escapes. Thirdly, a more careful copy edit might have eliminated a number of misspelled words. The only other thing that bears comment is there seemed to be a few red herrings planted that had this reviewer wondering why they were included since they did not further the plot. Despite the above, this book merits a solid four stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars I thoroughly enjoyed this book! 24 July 2012

I had a great time reading Murder in Devon by Maggie Andersen. The heroine is Casey Rowan, a journalist for a women's magazine in England. While staying with long time friends, Don and Tessa Broughton, she wakes one morning to a gruesome scene. Don has been murdered and Tessa is clinging to life. Although Tessa eventually recovers, she can't help identify the murderer.

Considered a suspect in the beginning, she is the only one left alive in the house; propels Casey into action, much to Detective Rod Carlisle's annoyance. He thinks she's meddling, she thinks she investigating and isn't about to stop.

The clues lead her down different paths. One which takes her into the world of art collectors and artwork stolen by the Nazis in World War II, which I have always found a fascinating subject. For Casey, the mystery of Don gets deeper and she soon learns you may not know your friends as well as you think. Everyone has secrets and so did Don and Tessa.

When Casey is cleared as a suspect, Rod reluctantly agrees to let her use her journalist privileges to probe certain suspects. Until she becomes a target herself.

There is a nice romance between Rod and Casey. The first time they consummate their relationship, it's a short but hot scene. After that, their time together is more implied. While I would have liked a little more sizzle in the later scenes, it certainly didn't take away from my total enjoyment of this novel. The plot was solid and well thought out.

I don't know what the author's intentions are, but I would like to see another story or two involving Rod and Casey. Their chemistry is good and I think they'd be a fun and entertaining crime solving duo.

I would definitely recommend this book, especially if you are a fan of murder mysteries. The author keeps you guessing until the end.
3.0 out of 5 stars Good mystery, ok romance 27 July 2015

The book starts off wonderfully - tense, shocking, right away there's a dead body and the best friend seriously wounded. And, since she's a reporter, and a pretty good one, evidently, she decides to join the investigation. The premise is good and the mystery is good. But be warned, there is explicit sex that could have been left out as it did nothing to further the plot. Therefore, this is not your standard "cozy," but a murder mystery mixed with a romance that includes sex. I'm not a prude, but really, they could have been satisfied without the graphics. My opinion for what it's worth.

I found Murder in Devon an entertaining read. The whole American character, in England, written by an Aussie author had me intrigued! Casey's dogged determination to uncover the truth behind the murder of her friend had me both cheering and fearing for her. As for her love interest, Rod Carlisle, I'm a sucker for a Scot! You could feel his frustration as he tried to protect Casey and do his job as well. The story moves along a fast pace, meaning you are never left wondering where it's going. False leads and plenty of characters with something to hide have you on the edge of your seat as you try to work out who did it before Casey and Carlisle do - will you be able to solve it?? (for the record, I didn't!
