Eve and her best friend Madeleine are hoping the renovations on their store will be finished soon. While they wait, they have moved their consignment shop merchandise into a motor home—courtesy of Nappi, Eve’s good friend. When Jenny, a customer and local landowner, visits the temporary shop and tells the two store owners she is allowing a nearby company to hold mud bog races on her swampy and useless land, Eve and Madeleine are worried about the environmental impact on the local wildlife. While protesting the event, Eve and Madeleine watch a stuck truck kick up more than mud—mixed in with the mud is the severed head of Jenny, which Eve ends up catching. Ugh! When Mr. Egret, Sammy’s grandfather, is arrested for the murder, Eve is convinced he is innocent and being framed. She sets out to find the culprit, much to the dismay of her boyfriend, Alex.
Mud Bog Murder by Lesley Diehl is the fourth book in this fun and entertaining series. Eve and Madeleine are best friends and co-owners of the store, but they are so very different. Madeleine is soft and sweet and likes to keep the peace. Eve is stubborn, abrupt and extremely independent. However, she loves her friends and family and will always be there to defend and support them. Being “Yankees”, the two women are working hard to become part of their adopted “old world” Florida community. The author has surrounded Eve with some interesting secondary characters—even Eve’s ex is growing on me! There has been a bit of a romantic triangle going on, and I was happy to see that Eve finally makes a choice. I liked both guys, so I didn’t really have a preference (and I usually do—LOL), but I liked the way the author handled the situation. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this engaging series. Happy reading
"Mud Bog Murder" is another fantastic Eve Appel mystery by Lesley A. Diehl. Eve and Madeleine, partners in a consignment business, are strong believers in protecting the environment. When a local woman decides to hold a mud bog event on her property, which will destroy the vegetation and uproot the wildlife, the two women decide to attend the protest. They have no idea how that one decision will impact their business and endanger their lives. I highly recommend "Mud Bog Murder."
This is a fun read, somewhat a mix of cozy and amatuer sleuth. The main characters are women, their business is recycling the clothing of rich Florida matrons, but they manage to get mixed up in murder. There is no shortage of interesting male characters, which adds spice to the story.
