Moultrie A-25 Game Camera
Entry-level on another level
It may be entry-level, but don’t think the A-25 is short on features. It has 12-megapixel resolution for crisp images that bring the upcoming season’s potential to life. A trigger speed of just .9 seconds means you’re less likely to miss capturing an image of that trophy buck or other game. The new A-25 performs equally well day or night. Our Long-Range Infrared Flash reaches out to 60 feet, exactly matching the game camera’s detection range. Powered by eight AA batteries, you can expect to get up to 17,000 images before changing batteries. The A-25 is also our lowest priced Moultrie Mobile compatible camera. Easy-to-use interface and back-lit buttons make setup in low-light simple. And even though it’s a Moultrie, and built to last. Quality images night and day
It’s one thing for a game camera to produce quality images in the daytime. It’s a completely different matter to do it at night. It takes advances like Moultrie’s Infrared LED technology and superior sensors to produce quality nighttime images. Because of advances like these, Moultrie trail cameras have a reputation for performing equally well day or night.

Easy battery replacement
Moultrie cameras are designed for long battery life and use readily available AA batteries. Convenient loading tray makes replacement simple.
One of the key measures of trail camera performance is trigger speed. Generally speaking, a faster trigger speed means there’s less chance of missing a moving animal. But a wider field of view is also a factor since it allows more of the animal to be seen when the image is taken. Moultrie designs its cameras to strike a balance between trigger speed and field of view to provide the best images possible on game that are quickly moving across the field of view.
Solar power capable
Adding a Moultrie Camera Power Panel to your Moultrie game camera can reduce or eliminate the need to replace batteries. Power panel has a built-in 12-volt battery and works on Moultrie cameras made in 2007 and later.
Depend on it
Moultrie game cameras are known for two things, image quality and reliability. Image quality is the result of the technology we put into our cameras. Reliability is the result of how we build our cameras. They’re made to be dependable.

In my case, I only found out about the limited compatibility after struggling for two and one half hours trying to get this camera set up. Finally, after trying about 5 different SD cards, re-formatting, re-setting multiple setup parameters, changing out new for new batteries, etc., and then searching through pages of so called “user information” on the Moultrie website, I found a fine print statement that the camera will not recognize Ultra or High Speed SD cards (as are the types most commonly sold and used by practically all modern devices!). (See included screen shots of the Moultrie site.)
The statement then recommends that if you are unable to get the camera to recognize your SD cards, “you should buy another card!” Buying cards directly from Moultrie is implied in these site pages. I have included screen shots of the Moultrie website where I finally found this information. This appears to be a proverbial bait and switch marketing ploy so that Moultrie can sell SD cards and other “accessories” after selling the camera. Furthermore, other comments refer to similar issues about purchasing additional accessories in order to use advertised functionality.
Following all of the above hassle and research with this camera and determining that Ultra or High Speed SD cards could not be used, I was finally able to get the camera to function by digging out an SD card that was more than seven years old and not marked with Ultra, or anything other than SD. BTW, almost all of my SD cards are not compatible with this camera. It is almost certain that everyone else's SD card inventory will be the same, including yours. It seems ridiculous for a manufacturer to require a person to purchase an inventory of obsolete cards in order to just use this camera. After finally getting the camera to function at all, the other disappointments soon became obvious.
I own another brand of trail cam, and have experience with operating four trail cams altogether (two brands, Xikezan and Browning). Even though all of the trail cams I have used are much older than this one, and all cost less, they all have far superior features and performance. Furthermore, all of my SD cards, old and new, are interchangeable and work in all of my other game cams and devices.
This Moultrie camera is dismally behind the times because of its limited compatibility, performance, and features, particularly for this price point and being marketed as a 2018 product.
In addition to problems with the compatibility, the trigger speed, and timing between multiple shots, are completely inadequate for most subjects. In testing-out the camera in front of my home, I found that the three burst shots were worthless. In most cases, even for people walking by, or people on bicycles, or animals and pets, after the first shot was triggered, the remaining two shots were empty because the subject was moving and had gone out of the frame. The other two brands of cameras I have used will usually capture each subject three times, even moving cars! (I live on a corner lot in a residential neighborhood and most of the cars are moving slowly from having turned a corner onto the street.) In many cases, the photo only included a small portion of the front of a car, or a side view of a person on the side of the field. I have included the pictures taken by this camera to illustrate these points. (See included screen shots from this game camera.)
There are additional limitations that are obvious after only a short time of use. The photo information on each photo is very limited when compared to other brands (and not user definable). Just a few examples are lack of the burst number in the three burst shots, lack of image number, and lack of moon phase or similar info as provided by almost all other brands. There are "zero" user definable parameters in the video mode! None! Once the video mode is selected, you have no idea what to expect, how long it will record, or anything else! I feel that there are other limitations that would become apparent after further use.
Also, the camera had a tendency to lock-up from time to time and not allow changes in the setup mode (or even enter the setup mode). To overcome this problem, it was necessary to remove the battery tray for a minute or two and then reinsert, and reboot. This becomes extremely time consuming and annoying.
Also, there were error codes and other codes on the LCD display for which there is no description anywhere as to what they mean. I found no legend for these codes in the scant documentation included with the camera, nor even on their website. Just one example is a code something like “SDCrd” which I assume means that the card is either missing or can't be accessed. There are other cryptic and undefined codes as well.
The scant user manual included in the box contains absolutely no troubleshooting information, but instead refers you immediately to their convoluted and heavily layered website. With no legend for the codes displayed anywhere, and no easily accessible troubleshooting information, it is difficult to figure out what is wrong when it doesn't work, or even if it is working at all! Of course, it will be impossible for anyone to figure out such cumbersome functionality (or lack of it) without internet access.
This review is a brief summary of the problems and difficulties experienced with this product after only a few hours of use, and its usefulness and quality seems to be going down hill from here. I certainly cannot recommend this product. It is obsolete, behind the times, and far overpriced right out of the box. A huge time waster!
