I have been using this wheel brush for a while now and am very happy with it. It is soft and I use it for the face of the wheel.
Just spray your preferred wheel cleaner liberally to the wheel after rinsing it off. Wait couple minutes for the cleaner to work and then put all your brushes in a bucket with car wash soap. My first step is clean the face of the wheel with this brush. It goes in the spokes just fine and also, the bristles can reach to the lugnuts as well.
The handle is patterned-hardened plastic. So it is easy to hold even when wet, and wouldn't hurt your wheels. I have coupled this brush with a inside-barrel brush like EZ Detail or Daytona Brush, and also got the Tuf Shine Rubber brush and I'm a happy detailer. Next, I'll get the long handle version of this brush for the wheel well.
Like said, I've had this brush for couple months now and I didn't have any bristles coming out or deforming problem. It is a soft brush, I wouldn't use it on paint just in case, but I also wouldn't use it vigorously either, I'd try to keep it as long as possible.
