Elaine Everest, author of bestselling novels <i>The Woolworths Girls</i>, <i>The Butlins Girls</i>, <i>Christmas at Woolworths</i> and <i>Wartime at Woolworths</i>, was born and brought up in north-west Kent, where many of her books are set.
