This book was my most anticipated read for 2019, BB Reid did not disappoint.
If you like coming to age, friends to lovers, characters with pasts, angst, twists and turns, plot twists after plot twist, secrets and lies being revealed then this book is for you.
We first meet Wren in the peer and the puppet. Wren’s story continues from that storyline. Wren sort of reminded me of Ever. I certainly didn’t see wren as the guy who is pictured on the cover. Wren and Ever are so similar which made me fall in love with wren so fast.
With this being said, if you haven’t read the peer and the puppet and you were thinking of starting the moth and the flame, then I would recommend you start with the first book as that book sets the storyline for this series.
Wren and Lou meet under such unconventional circumstances and their first meeting couldn’t have gone any better in my eyes. When these two meet they begin a friendship and soon become inseparable. The chemistry, the connection they have started to build as friends is crazy. I wish I had that.
I love how bb takes us on the journey of learning how they meet, what has occurred in their life to shape them into the people they are today.
When these two finally get together it’s explosive, it will make you gasp for air. The sexual chemistry is dialed up to 180. The build up is there and as the pages and chapters go by, you see the dramatically change and your just waiting for it to happen.
I guarantee you will fall for wren and Lou and will love their story just as much as I did.
Of course we see Ever, Four, Vaughn, Tyra, Jamie, Barbie and many more characters. I missed these characters so much and was glad to see them in this book. With that being said if I don’t get Jamie’s book next, I am going to lock myself in my room and cry clutching a bottle of vodka to drown my sorrows in.
An interesting story line although, in parts and at times, unbelievable. This book is number two in the series "When Rivals Play". As the author recommends, this book should be read after the first book - "The Peer and the Puppet". The reason being that the "Moth and the Flame" is written using the one of the characters from the first book and their reverse perspective on the sequences in the first book. Reading the first book led me to purchase this follow-up second book. There is a 'third" book, a novella - "Evermore" that I've not purchased. Anyway, the story line was enjoyable and anyone wanting a likeable romance combined with family drama and some crime suspense then I'd suggest reading both books. B.B. Reid has an easy reading style and I've enjoyed some other books that she has written.
I loved this story of Wren and Lou. I loved their banter and the sass from Lou, she gave as good as she got. I loved the whole gang together, I love Ever and Four and can't wait to read Jamie and Barbie's story.
What a great follow on to book one in the When Rivals Play series. This book follows Louchana (Lou) and Wrens’ story. We met them briefly in the first book, The Puppet and the Peer, where there was already a lot of chemistry between the two of them, so I was really keen to read their story.
When Lou was 12 years old, her parents bought themselves a one way ticket to Paris, emptied their bank account and disappeared from Lou’s life, leaving her orphaned and in the care of social services. After being moved around to various foster homes, she eventually ends up living with the Henderson family; a loving family who really seemed to care about her, but Lou doesn’t allow herself to get close to them or anyone, and is constantly running away from her foster home and living on the streets. When Lou is 15 years old, fate literally brings her into the pathway of Wren and they strike up a close friendship.... best friends. The only downside to their friendship is that Wren is part of Exiled, a criminal gang who was run by the ruthless Nathaniel Fox. As much as she loved and cared for Wren, she couldn’t understand how such a beautiful soul could be part of such a ruthless and cruel organisation.
This novel is a very slow burning best friends to lovers novel. There’s a lot of the usual teenage drama and angst, and a lot of push and pull between the two main characters. What I loved about this book is that all the characters from the first book continue to feature in the second book and I really enjoyed the book when the whole gang was together. There are a few issues and questions that still needs to be addressed, so I look forward to reading the next instalment to this series, The Punk and the Plaything, Jamie and Barbettes story.
Been waiting for this feels like forever but was worth the wait loved that we got to see Ever and Four again too. Wren and Lou’s story was very different from the first one I we got to see how they first met and everything in between but the sexual tension kills you throughout most of the book which makes it oh so much better as it’s not straight away it takes it’s sweet time to go boom 💥 BB Reid you have done it again cannot wait for your next book ❤️
I love this world we get sucked into, this is more than a romance story, this is an epic tale with different secrets and truths that get revealed with each book! Though Wren and Lou’s love story is nothing short of amazing, you will feel everything with this book!
Another amazing book by b.b.Reid this book was impossible to put down and the tension between Wren and Lou was intense but beautiful. I loved reading and watching their story to develop and grow. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
