FACTS ABOUT ALCOHOLISM

  • There are approximately one hundred million alcoholics in the world today.
  • Ninety-nine million will die of the disease.
  • Sarah-Jane hasn’t had a drink for four and a half years.
  • That makes her one in a million

So why isn’t life idyllic for Sarah-Jane?

Her waitress job barely covers her rent. Her sponsor’s skipped off on a world cruise and abandoned her. And the girl she’s trying to save from a life of drunkenness is totally mad.

Boy does she need a drink.

But she can’t have one – can she?

A great read for the recovering alcoholic. Entertaining, warm, and full of good advice about alcoholism (even though it's a novel). Absolutely devoured this and it's prequel, Ice and a Slice. Highly recommend both!

Riveting memoir of recovery, compulsive reading and offers an insight into the power of the 12 Step Program. Especially recommend for women
with alcohol problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down 16 March 2015
By Rosie Edser - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Having read the first book in this series, Ice and a Slice, I couldn't wait to read this. I wasn't disappointed. SJ, the main character is wonderful. In this novel she is trying to help someone else give up drinking (which is very entertaining as the lady in question is quite a character - I won't spoil it for you but 50 shades of Grey has nothing on Didi.) Imagine a woman who can stop traffic with a look - and what she can do for men - phew. Yet Didi has a terrible secret that fuels her drinking. SJ has no idea what she is taking yon and this book is both hilarious and heartbreaking. SJ is also having trouble with her best friend, Tania, who is in denial about her marriage problems. Then her dad gets ill. In fact the catalogue of disasters that is SJ's life would tax any sane person and SJ is not quite sane. She is after all, a recovering alcoholic. Will she drink again or won't she? I don't think there's a woman out there who won't be able to identify with her. This novel is heart warming, funny, and so so poignant. I loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb 21 February 2015
By deejaye - Published on Amazon.com

Della Galton has done it again, only even better if that's possible. The characters, the plot, the twist and turns, highs and lows, blend in with each other so well the reader is holding one's breath in anticipation of what might happen next. As for emotion, she is in a class of her own. This is one of those books that once you have started to read it you will be reluctant to put down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting and moving. 13 April 2015
By Isabella - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I read this book right after having read Ice and a Slice, and I am still overwhelmed even as I write this review. Words fail me. It's one of the most touching and heartfelt report of a recovery from an addiction that I have ever read. I'd have to go back to Marian Keyes' Rachel's Holiday. I liked this sequel better, but only just because it shows you can do it. You do recover. There's a life after, that is waiting for you.
Anyone will appreciate this story (and I strongly suggest you read both books), but maybe those who have been blessed enough to be born twice will appreciate it even more.
I couldn't recommend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Having sped through 'Ice and a Slice' in a weekend ... 22 April 2015
By Alison Burton - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Having sped through 'Ice and a Slice' in a weekend, I fully intended to take my time with 'The Morning After The Life Before' and savour it, but as soon as I had read the first page, I knew that plan was out the window! The characters are too compelling (wait till you meet Didi...), the cliffhangers too irresistible – in fact, the more I read this book, it felt as if I were developing an addiction of my own. What's so refreshing about 'The Morning After The Life Before' is that although it deals with our relationship with alcohol and drugs, first and foremost, this is a novel about people and survival, and how you should never trust a book by its cover. (Which incidentally you most certainly shouldn't do with this book; this is packed with far more light and shade than perhaps the bright-and-breezy, lime green cover might suggest...) So hurry up, Della Galton, and write the next one – I'm hooked!
