Lovely story, not a complex tale but very enjoyable and amusing about a woman and her dog whom you really felt you knew by the end of the book. Usually I don't like tales about animals who think like humans but this was the exception, he is a great character. Monty and his owner make a good detective team and I look forward to reading any sequels to this one.

I've never read anything so clever. I laughed, I cried and I loved it. I enjoy stories about animals, but many are poorly written and they just don't ring true. In this book the characters come to life and the plot had me hooked. I was drawn into the world of Monty from Chapter 1 and charmed by the animal characters. But it's the relationship between the detective, Rose, and Monty that really touched my heart. When is the next book coming out?

I really enjoyed this book, so much in fact that the first thing I did after finishing it was to look for anymore books in the series. I was disappointed to find that this was the only one, I can only hope that this is the start of a whole series.

Brilliant! I couldn't put it down. I'm a fan of murder mysteries but I've never read anything quite so ingenious as Monty And Me. The young police woman, Rose Sidebottom, is a wonderfully sympathetic character, desperate to prove she can make it as a detective, but the star of the novel is Monty, the dog. We're inside Monty's head for much of the book, and a lot of the humour and the pathos comes from his view of the world. I have a dog and all I can say is Monty is not only a credible and lovable character, he gives us an insight into a world of dog history and dog lingo (I loved the "wee-mails" and Monty's account of why dogs and cats just don't get on). What I loved most is that Monty is very clever and sets out to find his master's killer. He's no dumb dog. I can't wait for the next in the series.

If you like Spencer Quinn’s “Chet & Bernie” mysteries (and I do), then you should love Monty and Me (which I did). It’s set in England, and is a wittier and more whimsical take on a woman’s best friend. Bennet has created a remarkably well observed character, given he’s a dog. I could see so much of my four-legged family member in him. But Monty is no sidekick. Rose is a bit of an underdog (no pun intended) so I found myself cheering on Monty and his mates as they help crack the case. You don’t need to be a dog-lover to enjoy this though: the whodunit is cleverly constructed, the story gets along at a good clip, and there are quite a few laugh-out-loud moments. Something for everyone. I hope we get to see more of Monty & Rose.

People who like reading and who like dogs, I thoroughly recommend Monty and Me. I don't know how she's done it, but somehow Louisa has managed to write a thrilling detective story, suitable for adults, starring Monty Dogdetective, the golden retriever who can read, speaks rat, squirrel, bird, insect and fish, and an all-round hero to rival Inspector Rex. I laughed, I cried, I shirked work to finish the last chapters!
