Set in the little town of Paradise Montana, this story is about healing, hope, and new beginnings. Not far from the beautiful town of Marietta with its gorgeous Christmas traditions, Paradise is a little quieter and a little less sure of itself, but peel back the veneer and you have a town filled with interesting characters who are prepared to step up to the plate in their own ways to help each other out, especially at Christmas.
For Gage Monroe, returning to Paradise is all about tying up loose ends, cleaning up Nd sell g his family ranch so he can put the past behind and make a fresh start, ideally somewhere warm and far from Montana. What he hasn't counted on is dynamic Pastor Sam Zabrinski, a donkey named Buford, two old cart horses, an apparently stray dog who seems to have adopted him and a parcel of townsfolk who seem to be much more concerned for his wellbeing than he expected.
Sam has brought her daughter Makayla to Paradise to make a new beginning. She's got grand plans for growing her flock starting with staging a living creche over three days leading up to Christmas. She's got a knack for finding solutions for other people's problems, but Gage is the first man in a very long time who might just be the solution for her, if only she can convince him to stay.
This story felt so real and so comfortable to me. I am in awe of Debra Salonen's talent as a storyteller. She has the wonderful knack of being able to string a sentence together well while at the same time creating characters that are so real you wouldn't blink if you bumped into them in the supermarket. Both Gage and Samantha have flaws, doubts and insecurities and watching them working through these was a pure delight.
