Mongrel: MM Paranormal Fantasy Romance (Outcast Mates) Kindle Edition
Mongrel, a creature more wolf than man, leads a lonely life on the fringes of pack society—until the night a handsome vampire shows up with a mysterious request.
Bowie, a vampire cursed to a life of endless nights, maintains close ties with his human family. When young girls in their village go missing, he must act quickly. But to find them, he’ll need to convince the local werewolf pack to loan him their best tracker—a wolf known as the Mongrel.
Though he hates the slur, Andras is used to being called Mongrel. When Bowie refuses to refer to him by anything but his given name, Andras can’t help a flicker of unexpected trust toward the stranger. He volunteers to help Bowie, risking banishment.
Can two tenderhearted men overcome their traumatic pasts and work together to rescue the girls before it’s too late? Or will the world’s most prolific killer snuff the flames of their passion along with the lives of the captives?
This steamy love story spans the country of Hungary as Andras and Bowie journey through cities and wilderness on their quest to right a villain’s wicked wrongs. Mongrel features a sweetly possessive werewolf, a cinnamon roll of a vampire, and the worst killer in history. A surprisingly fluffy MM Paranormal/Historical Romance considering the subject matter.
HEA guaranteed with loads of laughs along the way and no cliffhanger ending!

On their journey, the two grow close, with Andras meeting Bowie’s family, and bonding over helping to find missing girls. Eventually their search leads them to a very obvious villain. Seriously, if one knows even a tiny bit about Hungarian history of this time period, Elizabeth Bathory (though the story does use her actually name, Erzsébet Báthory) a very significant figure. So her being the villain was very obvious. The vampires and werewolves in the story did make it a bit more interesting.
The stakes did ramp up a bit when Andras’ niece is one of the girls taken. It does make the story a bit more interesting. But it was the pit stops along the way that I really enjoyed. The pair stayed in some very interesting places, which was so much fun. And along the way, Andras and Bowie started to fall for each other, which was very cute. Andras physical differences meant he’d never felt comfortable being with anyone, so Bowie’s complete acceptance of him was beautiful to watch.
Aside from Bathory, I loved watching Andras and Bowie fall in love. Their story was ridiculously adorable, making for a bloody good read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
It's elegantly written, with a real gothic horror feel and eerie sense of place. The relationship between Andras and Bowie develops slowly but beautifully, and the way they are so open hearted with each other made me melt. Bowie is still shameful of his past deeds, and Andras has been treated poorly by his pack, but they haven't let it make them hard or prickly.
I'm a dork about history too, so the fact this is based on a true series of events (minus the vampires and werewolves, I assume) was also a plus.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and I have chosen to leave an honest review.
This was a light, sweet story told solely from Andras, or Mongrel’s, POV.
I did enjoy it. The two MCs were likeable and loving to each other. I just would have liked more information. What happened to the stealer of young maidens? What happened with Andras’ pack? Just a few threads left untold. But perhaps this is the first in these two tales and more will be revealed later.

I found the romance between Bowie and Andras incredibly sweet. I really enjoy pairings that suit each other and help each other heal and grow, and I thought the romance scenes were lovely. The plot moved at a good pace and I enjoyed watching the relationship between the two main characters grow.
I would have wished for the story to be a bit more fleshed out - to my mind there was a strong enough plot that it didn't feel tacked onto the romance at all, which was a real strength, but sometimes certain parts of the story seemed rushed, especially the beginning, where I felt as though Andras' treatment by the pack was not explored in enough detail, as well as the ending, which in my opinion wrapped up too quickly. I would like to have known more about what happens to the villain(s), and whether Andras ends up leaving his pack for good. Potential sequel material regarding whether Bowie can prevent him from going feral? There seemed a lot left to explore. Two really sweet characters with a lovely romance.
An adorable werewolf, a sexy vampire, great historical references, wonderful period-appropriate descriptions of towns and scenery, interesting plot, fascinating side characters, Eastern European lore done well, and steamy sex scenes!
Mongrel is a story of a werewolf not accepted by his pack for his inability to look fully human (ears and tail remain unchanged - CUTE) who is asked to assist a vampire to look for girls gone missing in the area as he is an excellent tracker.
Bowie, the hot vampire, and Andras, the adorable wolfman go on a search together and grow close in a way that comes naturally. They understand one another and work as a team during the night while cuddling during day hours.
For the great story, the FLUFF and the STEAMY sex scenes - this book gets FIVE juicy stars from me.
Now, scuse me, as I go and shove this book at all my friends.
I have read quite a few books that are mm romance versions of fairy tales but it added a strong dimension to this paranormal book to have the historical background of events, towns and people added in. Enjoy.
This book “mongrel” is my finding of the year!!
