Collin and Tanner are trading in their dorm room with the two twin beds they lovingly shove together for an attic room at a beach house on fire island, with a much bigger bed! The plan is to work at the same restaurant Tanner has worked out during past summer trips to the island, and to explore their relationship more openly, in a safer environment. Collin is still estranged from his family and that is a weight on his shoulders. He continues to struggle with his own self-worth after the way he was raised, but Tanner continues to do everything he can to convince Collin that he matters.

As Collin gets more comfortable with Tanner’s circle of friends, he loosens up a bit, just a smidge really. It’s hard to move past something that has been a part of your life up until just a few months ago. And while they are fully committed to each other and they’ve taken their relationship to the next level, insecurity still manages to wiggle into the middle. Tanner’s ex is beyond flirtatious, as is one of the other boarders at the beach house with Collin. And when I say flirtatious, I’m being nice, it’s downright uncomfortable. When Collin finds Tanner and Wendy getting cosy one night, he jumps to the wrong conclusion and makes a rash decision that just might tear apart their already fragile union.

I am really taken with Stivali’s writing. I thoroughly enjoy the love that Tanner and Collin share, how it’s young, awkward and raw much like the characters themselves are. Even with that though, I didn’t quite like this book as much as the first. I could have done without the variety of secondary characters littering the story, and the hint toward Wendy causing problems for Tanner and Collin just urks me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sexy sequel! 13 April 2015
By kirstyv - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
In Moment of Time Karen Stivali takes the relationship between Collin and Tanner onto the next level, both physically and emotionally. Although being on Fire Island gives both young men the freedom to openly display their affection for one another, their summer break tests the strength of their relationship.
The way in which Karen Stivali chooses to develop Collin's characters allows us to see a different side of him than the one we were shown in Moment of Impact. In the first book, I liked his innocence and empathised with the way he was treated by his family. Now, however, I found his naivety irritating and I wanted to shake him out of the funk he lands himself in.
In the first book it was Tanner I was unsure of, yet on Fire Island his confidence is a little more subdued, despite the fact that he is working in a nightclub and spending time with his friends. The strength of his feelings for Collin are obvious and though certain events ask us to doubt him, I never did.
As Collin and Tanner question each other, they also lose the trust of an important friend, as Fire island and its drama begin to spin its web around their lives.
The freedom of the island gives Collin and Tanner an opportunity to explore their sexual relationship and Karen Stivali definitely increases the heat level of the story, but however passionate these acts are, we appreciate their context in terms of the romance.
Moment of Truth is an excellent sequel, in which the characters have the time to come alive a little more. We also have the feeling that each event that has taken place will have consequences for the young men once their summer is over and I wish I had the next instalment in my hands now!

*There is an excerpt of Moment of Clarity at the end of the book.*
I received this as a complimentary copy, in exchange for an honest review.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tedious shift work 9 March 2015
By InkedRainbowReads - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
ThreeStar
This is a continuance of Moment of Impact. The boys have been together for a while and they go to spend the summer working on Fire Island. They stay in the shared house Tanner spent the previous summer in.

If we learned more about Collin’s life in Moment of Impact, Tanner’s world becomes much more clear in the second part of the story. This time the supporting characters are more deftly drawn and more fully developed. Even Collin’s family is allowed to break type and emerge as more human.

Everything about this story feels more fully developed. The hot, hedonistic summer island setting is realistic enough to make me nostalgic for my own university summers. Tedious shift work, after hours clubbing, beach parties and the joys of shared houses are all carefully drawn.

It was the main characters I didn’t always believe. Tanner and Collin feel oddly conservative for two newly legal gay men in such a wildly liberal environment. Tanner introduces Collin to everything sexual, but he doesn’t help him party or even play very much. And yet - Collin is wary about night clubs, but not about tattoos? I’m not sure either character was very believable in the environment they were living in.

Again, both stories together are only the length of a short novel, so it is difficult to understand why they are being sold as two separate books. I would have preferred them as part one and part two of the same book, saving readers a second purchase.

So yes, this was a more engaging story than the first. It is more complex and is without the editing errors present through the first. It is a simple young adult story about finding an adult identity, holding on to a relationship and becoming independent.

I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great m/m summer romance! 5 March 2015
By Maria Rose - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This is the second story for Collin and Tanner, first introduced in Moment of Impact (which ended on a happy note and can be read as a standalone). Summer has come and Tanner has invited Collin to come with him to Fire Island, a resort area, to work for the summer. It's a different place than Collin has ever been before, one where being gay isn't a big deal and they are able to spend time together while earning money for the next year of college. But being out of the closet still isn't that easy for Collin, and Tanner's bisexuality is also worrisome to him, with the number of attractive girls who see Tanner as the prize they want too. Will the summer bring them closer together or tear them apart?

I loved this story! Even if you haven't read the first part of their story, it would be easy to dive right into this one as it's easy to get right into the story as Collin and Tanner start their summer together. I thought it was a really smooth read, keeping me interested from the first page as they head to Fire Island, get jobs there and go about the business of really learning how to trust and rely on each other. Their attraction to each other has only gotten stronger and leads to several sexy, tender and emotional love scenes that cement their feelings. But at the same time, there are other players in the game, attractive young twenty something's who are equally as interested in Collin and Tanner and like any new relationship, their insecurities for their new found relationshhip can sometimes be overwhelming. I thought all of their emotional experiences were really realistic and although the story is told only from Collin's point of view, Tanner's thoughts are equally represented. He's the stronger one in their couple, secure in his feelings for Collin. It's Collin who is dealing with showing his feelings for Tanner while still being unsure of how to behave publicly. Overall, I found this very entertaining, lighthearted and sexy with a good dose of sweet romance too. 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super hot college m/m romance! 4 March 2015
By KB Taylor - Published on Amazon.com

Moment of Truth was such an incredible follow-up to Moment of Impact. I love that the author moved this story in to a new world and setting, Fire Island in the summer. It had a totally different feel to it--it's an escape for the characters and the reader. In this story we get to see Collin and Tanner's relationship grow and be tested in such a relatable way. I could feel exactly what it was like to be back in college, at a time when you're independent but struggling to find your way with the messy challenges of friends and romantic relationships. Sometimes these characters handle things beautifully and other times, not so much, but that's so perfectly realistic. You have to make mistakes! (I won't go into detail because I hate spoilers!) The sex scenes in this book are smoking hot, but they perfectly show the deepening of the relationship between Collin and Tanner. It's never just slapped in there for no reason. I like that a lot. I also have to mention that I loved the menagerie of secondary characters in this book--it was just the right amount to capture the insanity of your early 20s--drama, fun, and friends everywhere. Can't recommend this book highly enough. I am eagerly awaiting the final installment in this series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet follow up 4 May 2015
By Heddie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Moment of Truth by Karen Stivali is a fantastic continuation to Collin and Tanner's love story. The boys move into a rented room for the summer and gets jobs on a small island. Collin is still anxious and self conscious, constantly wondering who knows about their relationship and what are they thinking? Gotta love blushing boys. The manscaping chapter was so classic! the author did a great job letting the reader peek into the scene. Razor and a mirror=super hot sex scene. This story is short, but deals with some serious issues like telling or not telling a friend about a cheating partner, which kind of blows up in their faces. That one was pretty obvious how that one was going to end, no surprise. there is still the family bs after coming out. Their friend Jason is not told about his sister's wedding and Collin's mother doesn't even acknowledging his birthday. There was a lot going on in this story. It's lovely how Collin starts accepting his own value and that Tanner is lucky to have him not just the other way around. Copy provided in exchange for an honest review.
