Moments in Time: Book One

Outside Collin Fitzpatrick’s dorm room is a dangerous place. Beyond his door the students of his small, conservative college think he’s straight, as does his Catholic family who'd disown him if they learned the truth. Inside, he’s safe with his incredibly sexy roommate Tanner D’Amico. Their room makes a perfect place to hide away and fall in love. The moment they cross the line from roommates to lovers, Collin becomes caught between their heavenly passionate encounters and the hellish reality that someone might find out and destroy everything. Tanner's not used to being so confined, and wants to show the world how much he loves Collin. But Collin’s not sure he’s ready for the impact stepping outside will make.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colleg Gay Love Story!!! 24 January 2015
By Paul Berry - Published on Amazon.com

Moment of Impact-Book 1 in Moments In Time by Karen Stivali!!!

Outside of Collins safe room with his sexy roommate, the worlds a very dangerous place for him as his college mates, his Catholic family and friends think he is straight. The only other person inside Collins safe world is Tanner his very sexy roommate. One night as they crossed from friends to lovers , Collin knew that there was no going back and the reality of anyone finding out was the most terrifying aspect of his life. Tanner has not lived so safe, not the way that Collin has. He is not use to this secret double life as he wants to show the world his beautiful lover but Collin has so much to loose or does he?

Their love started in their college dorm room one night that they share as roommates and Collin loves keeping Tanner all to himself in the safe world that he has created. This causes some problems between the guys as Tanner wants their love to grow outside of their room but Collin is just too afraid of being found out. When Collin finally realizes that Tanner is worth the risk, an accident happens that forces him too anyways.

I loved how the story started with just them as roommates and they fell for each other and the passion between Collin and Tanner was so incredibly hot. This was such a beautiful and yet realistic view of many gay relationships and the author captured it brilliantly. I thought the huge difference in their upbringing was so well written and set up the characters perfectly for this beautiful love story. This was my first novel by this author and I greatly enjoyed it. Her writing flowed so beautifully from page to page and the intense chemistry and the love between these guys was the absolute best. I found myself rooting for their love and not wanting this love story to ever end. I highly recommend Moment of Impact for everyone who enjoys a great love story between two beautiful men!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars MOI will go down on my list of favorite opening lines 11 January 2015

First off, MOI will go down on my list of favorite opening lines. From its conception, that first sentence had me. Hook, line and coc....um, I mean, sinker.
These characters are colorful, original and textured perfectly in Karen's unique style of utterly believable individual voices. Collin and Tanner could be your brother, cousin, or friend instantly. Once in the story, you'll feel as if you know them. While at the same time, this author brings something very fresh to a new genre.
The story is one any lover of m/m can slip into, but once you are there, don't expect to be able to put it down. The tension in the story is excellent and the sex spectacular! That part gets one of the highest ratings I can give in addition to to 5 stars, two hands.
Run, do not walk, those fingers to the one-click button!
4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Ready to Continue 8 February 2015

This is a really sweet coming-out in college tale about two roommates who are suddenly aware of their deep attraction to each other. They are strong, masculine individuals from completely different backgrounds (blond Colin from a strict Catholic family, Tanner with mixed heritage new age cosmopolitan parents). Their journey through hesitancy, lust, confusion and religion is handled with a bit of angst but not the kind that needs a couch to fix.

All that said, what stops short of five stars for me is the usual almost-break-up scenario that ends with a tiresome redux of so many crises solving plot devices in m/m romances. No spoiler from me, you can read it and raise your eyebrows, but you will definitely enjoy the rest of the book.

Looking forward to the next installment, and would really like to see how the author might be able to work in Colin's brother priest-to-be Quinn as well.
4.0 out of 5 stars when you love an author like I love Karen Stivali 23 August 2015

I tend to avoid YAs that are set in the American Collegiate scene. Nothing against them but it's not a lifestyle we have in Australia and we only identify with them through trashy teen movies.
But, when you love an author like I love Karen Stivali, well, what can I say. You just get it and read it no matter the story or setting. And once again I get wrapped up all warm and cosy and let Ms Stivali's words take me away. Never disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Forgotten plot point colors whole book (MILD SPOILAGE) 2 April 2015

" Tanner's not used to being so confined, and wants to show the world how much he loves Collin." This is the one line of the Amazon description that I have a problem with. Did the author forget that despite the fact that Collin was out to his family & friends back home, he was NOT out at school? No one knew but his friend, Wendy. So him deciding to kiss Collin in the middle of a big campus event, dark or not, sitting right next to their friends, without even discussing the possibility with Collin - "Is it ok if I kiss you?" - made zero sense. What made even less sense (in the negatives, if that's possible) was Tanner blowing up about Collin's reaction and leaving town for the weekend, giving Collin an ultimatum on the way out. That was so not right & not fair. And that's good that you feel strongly enough that you don't mind other people knowing, but don't just dump all this in my lap at once and just expect me to instantly man up! It doesn't exactly work that way. And Wendy...WTH is her deal? I understand her being Tanner's friend, but she overstepped her bounds when she reamed Collin out over the phone for Tanner being upset. They're in college, and Tanner's a grown man. But then again, I don't think Tanner should've discussed their relationship issues with her, either. Regardless of what title/label they put on it, Wendy was Tanner's ex in my eyes, and she didn't need to be in so much of their business. It was bad enough she knew Tanner wanted Collin way before Collin even knew. I feel like the book was decently written, I don't recall seeing any editing issues, but just the whole situation with Tanner's tantrum & Wendy's involvement (it's like a 3-way relationship to me) colored how I felt about the whole story. Makes me want to think hard before getting the sequel, especially since it's not available for $0.99 like this one was. A dollar I don't mind, but I'd hate to spend $4 and end up disappointed.
