2 - I don't run (bad knees and now plantar fasciitis), but I wear runners/trainers all day, everyday, and still go through alternating 2-3 pairs about once a year.
3 - A foot surgeon put me onto Mizuno neutral runners after I had been wearing Brooks Beasts for years. I couldn't be happier I switched!
4 - Started with Wave Rider 20's. Love those and the 21's. These knits are my first try with the 22's and I am happier with these than the previous 3 models (yes, I have 19's as well). These 22's feel different (better!) under foot than my beloved 21's, and seem to give me a useful "spring" in my walk that I never noticed in any other shoes (I've felt springy shoes before and never liked them, but these honestly give me a feeling of having more energy with each push-off). Whatever it is, I LIKE IT.
5 - Knit uppers feel great; This combined with the whole shoe feeling good all over is foot nirvana for a guy pushing 60 with PF and an arthritic knee.
Why am I here now? Came to buy another pair so when its time to replace the first, I'm not stuck with the next model which I may or may not like. In fact, I came looking for another pair of 20's, but they are long gone, and I have a pair of 21's which are still good enough, but I decided to try the 22 knits and now I'm back a week later to buy a second pair just to have them in case the 23's are not as awesome when its time for me to get a new pair.
The biggest thing I like about these Waveknits is the durability of the uppers. I tend to wear a hole in all of my shoes near my pinky toe. I think it has happened in all of my running shoes prior to these two pairs of Waveknits, but I’ve had no problems at all. I ran over 500 miles in the R1s before retiring them to just walk around shoes. They’ve probably seen another few hundred miles of casual walking and still look great. I’m about 250 miles into the R2s and love them. I just hope they have some red ones when the R3s come out.
The cushioning is superb. Definitely some of the softest but structured cushioning I've experienced in a Wave Rider to date and I've been running in them off and on for over 10 years. Sole has a lot of dry grip on everything from textured to smooth surfaces so I expect they'll perform well running in wet conditions as well.
Great colors to choose from. I got the Nautical Blue/Red Orange and they look fantastic -- fast just sitting there!
