About the Author
Charlotte MacLeod (1922 2005) was an internationally bestselling author of cozy mysteries. Born in Canada, she moved to Boston as a child, and lived in New England most of her life. After graduating from college, she made a career in advertising, writing copy for the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company before moving on to Boston firm N. H. Miller & Co., where she rose to the rank of vice president. In her spare time, MacLeod wrote short stories, and in 1964 published her first novel, a children s book called "Mystery of the White Knight. """In "Rest You Merry" (1978), MacLeod introduced Professor Peter Shandy, a horticulturist and amateur sleuth whose adventures she would chronicle for two decades. "The Family Vault "(1979) marked the first appearance of her other best-known characters: the husband and wife sleuthing team Sarah Kelling and Max Bittersohn, whom she followed until her last novel, "The Balloon Man", in 1998.

Perfect for telling at ChristmasReviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 August 2013
I wanted a book that contained stories of murder, mystery and ghosts set around Christmastime, and this certainly fits the bill. There are 15 stories and all are perfect for retelling over the Christmas period. Stoke up the fire, close the curtains and lower the lights, then entertain family and friends by retelling any or all of these great stories.

Fun, Christmas season read.

Good For Author-Specific FansReviewed in the United States on 27 December 2016
I bought this solely to read Sharyn McCrumb's story, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The rest, even though they were all well written, either required me to have read that author's series to keep up (not Sharyn's, by the way), or simply didn't connect with me for some reason. Still, don't use my review as a reason to bypass the collection. Your tastes may be radically different.

An excellent selection of seasonal talesReviewed in the United States on 26 January 2017
I thought this was an excellent collection of short stories with the central theme of Christmas. While some stories were better written than others; and some were better mysteries than others; all were enjoyable reads. I will reread some of them when the season rolls around again, and some of the stories were so enjoayable that I have already obtained other writings by the authors. Ms. MacLeod did her job of selecting stories for this volume very well.
