Believe in magic...

Single mom Carol Baker has the goal of providing an old-fashioned, white Christmas for her two kids. She's been divorced and the kids' dad, sadly, hasn't been the most attentive father. So, Carol takes her crew to New England, hoping for a happy holiday and a chance to make her small nuclear family feel whole. Little does she know that a series of mishaps and adventures will land her in the handsome innkeeper's arms, and cause her to rethink the meaning of faith.

With his only child headed to college, innkeeper Paul Love plans to sell his establishment and take an early retirement in Montreal, where he can live out the solitary life of a bachelor. Though his son and mom have other plans, including a surprise visit from Paul's old high school sweetheart, Beth. But it's hard to focus on Beth, when an offbeat brunette from Virginia captures his imagination. After so much time alone, can Paul open himself up to a little Christmas magic? What's more, can he convince Carol to believe, as well?

A sweet, traditional PG-rated romantic comedy.
Standard novella-length, approximately 25,000 words.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mistletoe in Maine ~ Holiday Brides Series ~ Book 3 27 December 2015

Carol Baker, single mom and teacher raising her two children alone wants to give them a special white Christmas and decided to take them to Maine to a resort in the North Woods.

Paul Love owns the Love Inn and makes Christmas special for all his guests, especially Carol and her two children Will and Ashley. Mistletoe in Maine is a sweet holiday love story about mature adults finding love in the middle of life and is a very special Christmas romance that I enjoyed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Sweet Christmas Story 29 November 2012

This is the first of Ms. Baird's works I've read, and based on this one, I'm going to read the others in the Holiday Brides series. It was a sweet, believable romance.

I did feel like there were a couple of "left me hanging" moments. The jerk of an ex-husband tells Carol he's sorry for a lot of things, but then goes on his merry way and doesn't change; I'd have liked for Ms. Baird to carry that out a little further (or just leave it out and let the guy be the complete and total jerk he clearly was, lol).

The other "hanging" moment was Beth's character. It seems that she's jealous of Carol, and even pushes her off the lift chair at one point. The next thing we know, she's talking to her husband (or was he her ex, I can't remember at this writing).

I truly enjoyed some of the humorous moments -- when Carol thought she'd killed Paul's dog, and when she ended up underneath the ski hut -- I laughed out loud sometimes. It's always nice to know I'm not the only klutz in the world!

Finally, I love, love, loved the moment when Carol is driving away from Paul's inn. I won't spoil it, but...*sigh*. What woman hasn't envisioned herself in a situation where a man...well, you'll see.

I hope you'll enjoy this story as much as I did!

3.0 out of 5 stars LOVED THE SETTING AND THE CHRISTMAS THEME 26 December 2012

I give this one a 3.75 stars. I must admit I am a bit predigested as I am a transplanted Maineiac who loves the stories with the setting of my home State.

I love the wild country in the North and Moose Head Lake is a particularly beautiful area of the State and yes Moose to exist. Perhaps not magical ones but certainly hugh ones.

I love the sweetness of this story and while it might have been predictable that in no way detracted from the theme and the Christmas story. I love the Love Inn, run by Paul Love and his son.

I highly recommend it for a great short, sweet Christmas read.

This was a cute, light, easy reading romance story. A divorced mother of 2 goes to Maine for Christmas. They have had a bit of a hard time due to an ass for an ex-husband & Dad. Paul, the host of the Bed & Breakfast, single father of one is about to turn their lives around. Good story. Very enjoyable.
