Product Description

The hole they dug was not deep. A white flour bag encased the little body. Three small faces watched from the window, eyes black with terror.

The child in the middle spoke without turning his head. ‘I wonder which one of us will be next?’

When a woman’s body is discovered in a cathedral and hours later a young man is found hanging from a tree outside his home, Detective Lottie Parker is called in to lead the investigation. Both bodies have the same distinctive tattoo clumsily inscribed on their legs. It’s clear the pair are connected, but how?

The trail leads Lottie to St Angela’s, a former children’s home, with a dark connection to her own family history. Suddenly the case just got personal.

As Lottie begins to link the current victims to unsolved murders decades old, two teenage boys go missing. She must close in on the killer before they strike again, but in doing so is she putting her own children in terrifying danger?

Lottie is about to come face to face with a twisted soul who has a very warped idea of justice.

Fans of Rachel Abbott, Karin Slaughter and Robert Dugoni will be gripped by this page-turning serial killer thriller, guaranteed to keep you reading late into the night.

The first half of the book moved along at a steady pace; there was a lot of movement between characters to set up the story. This book was a difficult read at times but you get so caught up that you can't put it down. The subject of the story is incredibly disturbing and sad: sexual abuse at a Catholic home for unwed mothers and children given up for adoption. Not a palpable topic, but as a mystery it's handled sensitively and pertinent to the story. I loved that the female protagonist is flawed - Lottie is certainly a very real and believable character. From about the 50% mark, the pace picked up dramatically and I couldn't put the book down, wanting to see how all the threads tied together. Hopefully, this will not be the last we see of DI Lottie. This is a debut novel and it's very well written. Overall, this was a four and half star effort in my opinion, and I hope to see more by this author.

This book keeps you interested all the way through. Lottiie as the main character and the main detective , shows life as it is for the hard working police.
Let's hope future books will be even better. Here we have the beginning of a new name in the world of literature. Good luck.

This story was a page Turner. That it is a debut novel makes want more therefore, I've pre-booked "The Stolen Girls" although that's not something I would normally do I did not want to risk missing this author's next novel. Her characters, especially the lead, draw you in and keep you needing to know how it all works out in the end, which was a good ending to the story.

What a wounded soul! Our hero is not so much a hero as a bad,y damaged person who simply cannot let an injustice go and all with a background of historical abuse that is all too true in real life. A tragedy from beginning to end but I can't wait to read her next book.

This story was interesting and gripping throughout. Although the topic was tragic, and would be no doubt factual for some families, it was truly well written and the characters were each intriguing in their own right. I recommend this to anyone who loves a down to earth detective, living a life like you and me, but determined to get justice for those who suffered unnecessarily, unfairly and inhumanly at the hands of evil and greedy beings. Highly recommended and looking forward to the next Lottie Parker story.

This was a police procedural with a difference. Set in Ireland, it was full of the anguish of loss and grief. The case was a succession of murders, with seemingly no links between the victims on a backstory of a notorious home for so-called wayward children. Really well written and hooked me early to have to keep reading until I found out all the sordid answers.
