Product Description

Lance Holder lives life the way he wants and makes no apologies, regardless of what anyone thinks. All everyone sees is the tattooed, motorcycle riding, reckless movie star, preventing anyone from looking beneath the surface. And that’s just the way Lance likes it.

Brea Richards is America’s sweetheart. She’s spent years honing her current reputation as one of the leading stars of a prime time television show. It’s a long way from her humble beginnings, but no one knows she’s lived worse than most people see in a lifetime.

Thrown together when Lance joins the cast of Brea’s show, everyone is watching to see if America’s bad boy will influence the sweetheart. But Lance seems to be one of the only ones to see beyond her current façade of pretending to be something she’s not. When a blast from the past sends Brea right back to the place she swore she’d never go again, maybe America’s bad boy is just what America’s sweetheart needs…

This book is intended for mature readers 18+.

I really liked the premise of this story – actors are always good for dramatics. Right off from page one, there’s drama. I felt sorry for Brea who comes from a tough upbringing. When she breaks free and heads to make her acting career, she’s given the label of Miss Congeniality.
In ‘work mode’, Brea is lovely, she’s demure, and she’s likeable. When she’s ‘off duty’ she’s unstable, she’s unbalanced and she’s still living the horrors of her childhood. For someone who has made her way, she’s a bit passive aggressive.
Her two personas collide when Lance and his ego come to work on her TV series. They exchanged witty retorts before they are forced to either get along or risk losing their jobs. Lance is also troubled and a bit unhinged.
I get really frustrated with passive aggressive books – there were some scenes where I was rolling my eyes and grinding my teeth. It’s just not my scene. In defence of that comment, I can see the scenes were used to add angst and conflict to the characters.
The sex scenes are hot and thankfully there’s a lot of growth by all the characters within this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars I adored Brea and Lances story! 27 December 2016

Why has this book sat on my Kindle for so long?! I am seriously kicking myself for not reading it sooner! Miss Congeniality by Marie Garner is a unique take on a Hollywood romance that shows the hard side of dating and life in the Hollywood spotlight.

Brea Richards has come so far from who she was growing up. She left her past behind her and has become Hollywood's "Miss Congeniality" part of the trio of "Misses". She's the good girl who can do no wrong, and only a select few know where she came from and what she left behind. Her past isn't pretty but has defined her and made her who she is today. All of her good girl image is about to take a turn when Lance Holder, Hollywood's bad boy, is named as a new co-star on her show, and sparks fly between the two of them.

The chemistry between the two of them is undeniable, but Brea tries her hardest to ignore the attraction between Lance until it becomes a problem at work and they are forced to work out their differences. As Lance and Brea start to find peace with one another and try being friends, things definitely heat up and you can tell there is no going back for these two. Things definitely get complicated and you can see both of them have things in their past that define them, and their public images may not technically be true to who they really are.

Lance's character is amazing and a true alpha. He takes care of Brea and protects her, and does everything in his power to keep her safe. He pushes her when she needs to be pushed, tells her the truth even when she doesn't want to hear it, and gives her the space she needs even if she doesn't want it. He's perfect for her, even if sometimes she is too stubborn to realize it. These two balance one another out, but at times push each other a little too much. Their relationship has many ups and downs and at times I was like is anything ever going to work out for them and will they catch a break?!

I adored their story though, and I loved watching Brea come to terms with her past and realizing she can't change it, and she can accept it and not be afraid of how it is going to affect her. She can let the bad go and let the good continue to be in her life. Her friends (also her co-stars) are amazing and are always there to give her a swift kick when she needs it and I can't wait to dive into their stories next! If you want a crazy wild love story about not so perfect Hollywood actors, I highly suggest picking up Miss Congeniality by Marie Garner today. This book, even though part of a trilogy, is a stand alone and is Brea and Lances book, and the ending is AMAZING!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Miss Congeniality is sweet, sassy, & sexy! 5 January 2015

If you’re looking for a sweet story with just the right amount of angst and a steamy vibe, then Miss Congeniality should definitely be on your list! I quickly fell under Lance’s spell and was addicted to his sweet-talking, sexy, alpha ways. Brea is America’s sweetheart, a prominent actress on a hit TV series, but Marie Garner made sure this woman was so much more. I loved getting to know her and seeing her evolve alongside Lance. Marie is able to bring out a wide range of emotions in this story, and I really felt Brea’s journey. Miss Congeniality is a fresh take on young Hollywood and I’m already eager for the next book in the series.

I absolutely adored “the Misses”, a trio of starlets who happen to be best friends. Their conceived public personalities have come to define them, but Marie Garner is quick to let us know that these characters have depth. The friendship Marie has created between them is unquestionably genuine. Their bond pulled me in and made me wish I was part of their exclusive group. Lance is an alpha, protective and possessive and it was hot! I loved watching him fall for Brea, unexpectedly losing his calm and control. Brea was surprisingly naïve and insecure with a past that was best kept out of the Hollywood spotlight. Watching this seemingly perfect actress struggle and fall just like everyone else gave her a sense of humility that had me connecting to her in a way I couldn’t have guessed. Marie Garner writes characters you can’t help but relate to and in doing so; she effortlessly drags me into the world she has crafted.

The beginning of the story moved a little slow. It took me some time to really get into the story, but once I did, the perfect balance of racy moments and major plot points pleasantly surprised me. Lance and Brea are scorching. The electricity between them practically sparks off the page. More than that, this couple had a fun and unique dynamic that kept me grinning from start to finish. They could be sweet, sassy, and sarcastic, constantly keeping me on my toes. The writing is great as is the pacing and character development. Marie Garner managed to peak my interest in the other characters more than enough to ensure I’d be back for her next book. Miss Congeniality is entertaining, sarcastic, emotional, and endearing. I’m definitely glad I gave this one a shot!

5.0 out of 5 stars ...a really sexy Hollywood Romance with an amazingly adorable Bad Boy Hottie - who's not really all that bad 28 October 2014

Brea has always wanted to become an actress in Hollywood. She had a really bad childhood, with a drug-addict mom and long line of horrible guys walking in an out of their house. She only survived because of her big brother Alex.
Now she has everything she's ever dreamed of. She's the star of one of Hollywoods top TV Shows - for the seventh season in a row.
But this season a new guy joins the cast as her character's love interest.
Tattooed Hollywood Bad Boy Lance....
They're immediately extremely attracted to each other...but only Lance is open about what he really wants. And that is Brea. But Brea wants to deny her feelings. She swore she will never be dependant on another person again. But of course they can't resist each other and quickly become an item.
But hanging out with Hollywood's bad boy is not really good for her good-girl image. But he's not really a bad boy, he's the sweetest guy ever!!!! He might be slighty dominant ... inside the bedroom and out.☺
But not only their relationship is fodder for the media - her brother might be in some trouble too, and it's only a matter of time until her whole past will be revealed...

I really liked the blurb and I really loooooved Lance...
give me a Rockstar - Navy SEAL or a Hollywood Hottie and I'm a total fangirl...
The story really had great potential...but unfortunately, for me, it didn't quite live up to it's promise.
This could've been the perfect story...I sooo love a good Hollywood Romance. I don't really know what bothered me, but there were some things I didn't like.

The story sometimes just cruises along, with nothing much happening and lots of redundant lines. And then there's the writing style. I sometimes had the feeling that the author's first language isn't English - or she's fresh out of University, where it's required to write like that...She way too often uses the long versions for IT'S - I'M - YOU'RE etc. ... you're reading your book and you want the writing to flow from your mind's tongue and then you have to read I AM - IT IS - YOU ARE - all the time. In every other book you shorten it... Of course sometimes authors write the longer version when they need them to mean something, but here they just didn't need to be long. And it totally disturbed my reading-flow :((((

Another thing...Brea's two best friends and co-stars have too many scenes in the book. It's ok to introduce them, especially because we'll get their own stories in the next two books, but they were really in this book a LOT ☺

BUT - when we forget/overlook those tiny little problems - the story was really great and very sexy and adorable!

Don't let my stupid problems stop you from enjoying the book ☺

MISS CONGENIALITY was a really sexy Hollywood Romance with an amazingly adorable Bad Boy Hottie - who's not really all that bad...

...and now I'm really looking forward to reading the next book in the series ☺

5.0 out of 5 stars I heart Lance 25 November 2014
By Lena Loves Books - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Miss Congeniality is the first book in Marie Garner’s Misses Trilogy. First up Brea Richards, Miss Congeniality. What I liked about this book is that not everything is as what it seems. Case in point, Brea. Although on the show she stars in called Maggie Beach, she is Miss Congeniality, her real life story and personality couldn’t be further from that persona. Brea is a small town girl whose real life is filled with dark secrets that she would rather keep buried. She is successful until Lance Holder joins the cast as her love interest.
Lance is Hollywood’s Bad Boy and the tabloids would love nothing better than to see him corrupt Miss Congeniality. As Brea finds out, he really isn’t that bad of a boy. Lance helps her to be more true to herself than she ever was before. In Hollywood where people can quickly lose themselves, he manages to stay grounded. I like that he teaches this important skill to her.
In this story the hero brings more than physical strength to the table. He brings a mental toughness and realness that all three of the ladies can draw and learn from. If you couldn’t tell, it was my favorite part of the story.
