A good story which allows for character development and their romance is gentle and builds.
It's patient but when things come to a head it's a page turning experience.
I liked this one but without giving away anything it's very difficult to review because there's so much going on.
Mish is trying his best to be better for Lauren but he has a whole airport of baggage. My only criticism is that Lauren takes it all in her stride and given the life of death circumstances I think her freaking out of going in to shock would have been better.
Well written and worth a look.

Going in I looked at the number of kindle locations, there are over 12000+!, and went in thinking this was going to be quite a journey… And was it ever! This is the not-so-little story of Lauren, a young woman who had already seen tragedy in her life, and Mishca, a handsome, successful businessman with hidden depths that only she was going to find…
What is the Volkov Bratva? Well, I found out through mysterious conversations and tension-filled, sometimes violent, events. When dealing with organized crime there seems to be this uneasy mix of loyalty and devotion and blood and violence. How do I reconcile characters which I laugh with and grow to love with sometimes unspeakable actions? Well, it’s a nod to the author who puts me in that welcome, but uncomfortable, spot.
Lauren and Mishca were soulmates… Despite everything that they were faced with – and oh my gawd, was there a lot – the ups and downs pummeled their hearts and their relationship but they kept working through it. There were mistakes, and wrong moves, but at the end of the day they simply had to sort it out. Sigh… *heart flutters*….
This collection put me through the ringer in the best of ways. This was an intricate, but never overdone, courtship that had stomach in your throat action and tension that never went away – even in the most innocent of moments. The characters had so many dimensions to them that even this collection couldn’t answer all the questions surrounding them. The secondary characters provided so much to the story – to the emotion, to the tension (and even the blood and violence). Alex, Vlad, Luka, Amber, Susan and Ross, Klaus – even Mikhail – brought equal parts love, heartache, turmoil and humour to the mix.
“Do you have like a magic…” She gestured to Lauren’s lower half with a wave of her hand.
When the end finally came it was very quiet, not quite what I expected, until I realized that this story was not over… There is more to come for all the Volkovs and I couldn’t be happier about that!
**Reviewed for Nerdy, Dirty & Flirty**

The first book starts off slowly. It has a new adult (NA) setting with the heroine about to start college and the hero trying to prove himself a worthy asset within the family's business. The nature of what the two main characters have had to face takes this story beyond your average NA romance. There's plenty of drama but the quiet times balance the suspense perfectly.
Mishca and Lauren's families and background should have kept them apart. It doesn't but it's not a smooth ride ahead and as soon as they work it out, it was like they were never apart. The obvious restraint Mishca showed in waiting for the right time to take their relationship to the next level highlighted his strength of character. Mind you, when he does decide to sweep her off her feet, it was perfect. In the beginning, there was a tendency to fade to black when the steamy action started. It was only when their actions were pivotal to the storyline that the steamy scenes were actually included.
Be ready for revelation after revelation. I began to wonder who or what would pop up next! The twists were woven in so well that apart from acknowledging they were occurring they didn't bother me. The twists also provided the opportunity for additional characters to be added to the already impressive cast of characters. Family, whether related or chosen, was a strong feature. There's plenty of drama but the quiet times balanced out the suspense perfectly.
What keeps me returning to books in this genre is that they are steeped in suspense, and the plots require strong characters to maintain the flow of the story. These are the elements I look for when choosing what book to read next. This collection ends with a novella that contained news that had me eager to read on. So I've found a new series to follow and a new-to-me author as well. Happy days!
