Misfit Magic introduces a new set of heroines from the virtual pen of the author. It's set in an interesting world where dragons rule. The dragon's have two forms, one fully human except for their hair colours and a second draconic form with scales and other enhancements which can fly. Magic is a large part of the world but not all dragons use it.

Imagine a crossover of Harry Potter with tv shows like Charmed. The characters are a bit interchangeable at first but as the story progresses they grow as individuals. There are mysteries to be explored and exploring the world is part of the fun of the book. In fact exploring the world is the best part of the book. Yes, there is a lot of lesbian sex between the girls, too much really. I would have preferred some of the students to just be platonic friends. Hopefully the next book will concentrate on the remaining mysteries encountered in this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of awesome and misfits 10 June 2017

Another excellent Niall Teasdale book.

1. Excellent world building
2. Good/great dialogue.
3. Intrigue! Daring do! Boobies! (more of the boobies than the other two really).

Fun fast paced read that draws one in with some good twists and turns.

The "Dragons" of this book are well.. everyone. Highly enjoyed some of the takes on the "school of magic" trope as well. Also well done was the season change. Winter being the longer days instead of our world.

A lot of good stuff and fast development of many parts of the book. Did not leave me at all bored and I ran this book through pretty quickly.

Reminds me of the "Bookworm" series by Christopher G. Nuttall in some ways but with a better sense of humor and fun than those books. And considerably more adult than those as well.

It'll be neat to see how this series fleshes out. Teasdale does have so many series rolling now that I do wonder when he'll get back to this one.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good if you like poking fun at Bronys... 30 June 2017

I have friend that is a big-time Brony, who is always trying to make me watch it – so telling her about the new book series, which was “just like it - only better,” was worth the purchase (especially when I told her ‘how’ it was better).

However, the attention to detail in the writing is very good. Like, using full names all the time, and the way he highlighted the dark side of the setting was well done - highly stratified society, with abuse & sexism being common, and the consequences of barring ‘dark’ spirits from crossing into the ‘happy hunting grounds,’ was well done, in my opinion. I nice poke at the source material.

The magic system seems to be very much like the one in Thaumatology – with demons (or in this case, dark spirits that never crossed into the afterlife) providing extra magic power in exchange for power over you.

Truthfully, the story is a bit basic, and the character is Mr. Teasdale’s typical ‘enormously’ gifted, talented, hot, lesbian (but bi-inclined), orphan. The sexscapades were a bit over used, but thankfully there is actually not a lot of detail, it’s just mentioned a lot. So, not too bad.

So, basically I think this is a good start to a series – as long as you are ok with poking fun of the Ponies, and Bronys.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome story 7 May 2017

As always the author didn't disappoint. Some of the key points of the story were predictable, but you can gloss over it and appreciate the magic system and world building. The characters are endearing, smart and funny! A page turner who deserve the money I spent on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Please keep them coming. 13 May 2017

Niall Teasdale is still performing magic with their writing. I continue to be impressed by the path of the stories. When I read, I seek stories that are full of life and complexity. Niall rarely fails to provide in any way shape or form. I will continue to grab as many stories as I can for as long as they keep coming.
