A bit disappointed.Reviewed in Canada on 20 October 2018
It reads more like a diary. I thought I would really enjoy reading it but it’s onky ok. It’s really only relevant to someone who’s lost a child. It’s also very short.
Valerie explains how the "Beast" is what we need to conquer so we in turn can live a life of freedom and joy. It all struck home for meReviewed in the United States on 3 December 2017
This book left me speechless. Valerie has a voice for all of us suffering through our children's addictions. What we loose in the meantime is ourselves, and "The Beast" is our battle. Valerie explains how the "Beast" is what we need to conquer so we in turn can live a life of freedom and joy. It all struck home for me. . . after counselors trying to get me thru the pain. . . . it was Valerie that threw me the lifeline! I am forever grateful and my life will have light once again. Today I am burying my "Beast" and letting go of the leash. From the bottom of my heart Valerie, you have provided me with the steps to take to join the world of the living and leave misery behind.

Words of strength, knowledge, but mostly experience resonate throughout this book.. A must read for anyone wanting to take theirReviewed in the United States on 29 May 2018
One of the hardest things I've experienced is accepting your life as the Mother of an addict. I prayed so hard to have my daughter back, my heart hurt so bad and I didn't know how to do anything but cry. Valeries pain has given her the words we need...... to take back our lives, to learn how to find 'us' again. We can let our child's addiction destroy us or we can get up off the mat and fight because 'Misery will not get my company' that is my promise to me and to the rest of my family.

Valerie always challenges our way of thinking in all of her books. I could so relate to everything she had to say and didn’t want to put the book down.
