5.0 out of 5 stars Put simply, I adored this book! 3 July 2014
By Roz @ My Written Romance - Published on

Put simply, I adored this book. I loved that neither Jasmine or Grant were perfect - they had flaws and secrets, and they behaved like real people would have - should they actually find themselves in that situation.

It would be terribly difficult to deal with the loss of a part of your life that you loved as dearly as Jasmine loved ballet. Having known a number of people who have been dancers, I could see a real authenticity to how Jasmine grieves for her career.

I am a mad AFL fan (go Pies!), so I love that Grant played the game I love. Not often I get to read AFL playing heroes, so thanks for that one. His journey through the heights and pitfalls of sporting glory mirrors a number of real-life athletes, and I think Stefanie has done a marvellous job of showing this and making it seem real.

As Stefanie said in our chat, these two are so dissimilar on the surface, yet they share so many common traits - both are rebuilding, both are removed from their families and let's face it, both are rather stubborn. It was just gorgeous seeing these two work this out, and trust me when I say you'll be willing them on to get that happiness and find each other. The chemistry and tension between them is luscious.

Now that I have read Only the Brave Try Ballet, I am really very keen to read Elise's story when it comes out. Jasmine's friend seems like a bunch of fun, and her story promises to be a lot of fun.

A wonderful, fun, sweet and sexy read, Only the Brave Try Ballet is most definitely one you need to read. A great debut from a fabulous new voice in Australian romance fiction!

5.0 out of 5 stars What's not to love? 4 February 2015

What's not to love?

- Cover shot: Hot!
- Title: Cheeky.
- Setting: Melbourne, Australia.
- Australian passions: Australian Rules Football vs The Australian Ballet.
- Protagonists: An intelligent, compassionate, masculine, redemption seeking hot AFL player vs a smart, sassy, beautiful, ballet swan with a broken wing (so to speak).

Forced to undertake ballet exercises to strengthen his leg following a sports injury, football star Grant Farley meets Jasmine Bell, ballet teacher. And the sparks fly!

What a well-written book. This romance ticks every box I require to be a satisfied reader.

The chemistry between Grant and Jasmine is undeniable and their attempts at resisting one another is a joy to experience, because when they come together, it is explosive in a good way. Just a kiss had me melting.

The characters are completely likable. The emotional rollercoaster created by the characters' inner turmoil is a great ride and aids the inflaming of the sexual tension. Accordingly, when sexy times happen, it is HOT and the timing feels right.

The pace of the story is natural taking place over the course of winter and concludes at the end of the first month of spring. This is a realistic time frame if you want to be convinced there is a basis for a happy ever after.

I got a small taste of being in Melbourne, the AFL and the ballerina's world. I would have liked more on the AFL training regime, the game, and the game's rules. But I got enough to be satisfied with the setting and more importantly, the romance. Sigh... it was excellent.

The mixing of some Australian-isms and American-isms was distracting: For example, the words `jumper' and `sweater' are both used. Australians don't say `sweater'. And `pavement' instead of `footpath' is used. And there are more instances in the book. However, these are minor matters in an overall excellent book, in my opinion.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this novel. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant first book by Stefanie London 4 November 2014
By Tassie Jan - Published on

What a great book for a first book by Stefanie London and showing off the culture of Melbourne and footy so well. Loved it. A great story about two different people from two totally different worlds. A football player and a ballerina, though both so dedicated to their professions. Both fall from grace by things they had done. Both broken in their own way. Grant's fall from grace was in front of the media a wake up call there were consequences to your actions. He had to fight back from the bad boy image to prove to himself, his team he had changed his ways. Due to injuries he had to go to ballet lesson's to strengthen his muscles and get his hamstring back to full use as quickly as possible. Enter the ballerina Jasmine who barely tolerated the cocky insufferable irresistible footy player Grant. Both had been hurt by people they loved and trusted, both made foolish mistakes in judgement that had affected their professional and personal life. A lovely story about getting passed that, to find the strength to trust again, to overcome their own fears, their own downfalls to face things about themselves they were too blind to see. Learning to trust again and finally to take the plunge at love. A great love story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watching these two fall in love is an absolute pleasure... and their chemistry is off the charts! 16 July 2014

I loved, loved, loved this book! I’ve always been a fan of a hot sportsman in fiction, and AFL player Grant Farley is certainly that! He’s hot, cocky and trying to prove himself. He meets his match in the lovely ballet instructor, Jasmine, who is struggling to get over a career ending injury which has left a gaping hole in her life. Grant, who is also working to overcome an injury along with his bad boy reputation, finds himself intrigued by this mystery woman and is determined to get her to admit to their attraction... and act on it. He never expected his heart to get involved.

Watching these two fall in love is an absolute pleasure... and their chemistry is off the charts! These characters are damaged, emotionally and physically, and it was so satisfying watching them open up to one another to build a friendship which blossoms into real love. This is one of those wonderful stories that is both entertaining, yet heartbreakingly real. It doesn’t matter that Jasmine and Grant have high profile careers. The author has given us real people with real problems and the reader will barrack for them from the sidelines because this is a novel with heart.

It’s hard to believe this is Stefanie London’s debut novel. I know I can’t wait for the next one featuring Jasmine’s friend, Elise (who you’ll love in this book).
