2.0 out of 5 stars Angry leads make this a hard story to enjoy 4 February 2014

The biggest problem I had with A Debt Paid in Passion were the leads who were stubborn. The heroine especially was aggravating because she had such poor judgment. It seemed she went from one bad decision to another.

Sirena Abbott is accused of stealing from her boss and former lover Raoul. She is stunned that Raoul has pressed charges; she is guilty of the crime and for reasons which I did not find overly compelling. She is granted some clemency from the judge and the reader and her boss discover she is pregnant from her lawyer. It isn't hard to guess who fathered her child.

Raoul wants to be part of his baby's life but Sirena is sooo incredibly obstinate that she claims he is not the father and so begins Sirena's angry diatribe for this entire novel. There is practically nothing Raoul will ever do for her to forgive him. She is distrustful, reserved, and many times a thank you seems impossible for her to state. I grew tired of her icy retorts and her lack of insight.

Raoul is no prince but he does reach out more than Sirena who holds on to her anger like a security blanket. Some of his gestures are quite grand and sensitive yet Sirena rarely reciprocates. This couple was at odds for most of this story with few tender moments. I did not feel an emotional connection between them other than the more negative feelings of resentment and antagonism.

5.0 out of 5 stars Angsty read with Boss and PA and accidental baby 4 January 2015
By Fiona - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Sirena Abbott is the perfect PA, working for Raoul Zesiger, until she makes the mistake of borrowing money for her family, not realising she would be unable to pay it back due to circumstances beyond her control.

After working for Raoul for two years, Sirena thinks she has her attraction to her boss under control, until one afternoon they find themselves alone in an unusual situation and things get out of control. Of course it is the very next day, Raoul finds out about her "borrowing" and for "reasons" he immediately assumes she had seduced him to cover herself.

Before she realises what has happened Sirena finds herself under arrest and in court, with no recourse. Raoul is determined to see her pay for her betrayal. Until he discovers she's pregnant and there is a good chance it belongs to him.

This is were the story opens and we go on the journey with Sirena and Raoul as they attempt to deal with this complication. And very complicated it is. Sirena's pregnancy is difficult and Raoul is confronted by her stubborn determination to keep her child though he is unaware of her health problems.

At first glance it seems like getting these two together might be beyond hope as they had both felt so betrayed by each other just as their relationship was at that tender first bud stage. I was seriously emotional by the end which is why I had to give it five stars. It wasn't a perfect read but if it makes me cry I feel I should acknowledge that.
