Product Description

“A magical, joyful, delightful, sexy contemporary romance by a new star in the making!” — New York Times bestselling author Marie Force

The show must go on, but the price of admission could be her heart.

Sick of her vagabond life in a Broadway touring company, Nicola is ready to settle down. She wants nothing more than to park her suitcase in California, put out feelers for local auditions, and leave her past firmly behind her.

Too bad her past comes knocking on her door her first day home. All six-foot-three, beautiful man of her past named Max. Stupid Max. The mistake Nicola just can’t seem to stop making.

Even before Nicola—fiery, quick-witted, beautiful Nicola—slams the door in his face, Max is in trouble. She will always be the one who got away. Three times. Which makes convincing her to play Titania to his Oberon a bit…awkward.

Though she has zero desire to re-re-rekindle an old flame, Nicola can’t turn down the chance Max is offering: a lead role with the West Coast’s premiere Shakespeare company. But when their first rehearsal kiss disintegrates into a passionate liplock, she’s questioning her sanity and tempted to jump ship—before Max can break her heart again.

Now it’s up to Max to convince her that the torch he’s been carrying is actually an eternal flame.

A wonderful true love story!!! Slightly slow to begin with, but once it picked up... I really enjoyed it!!!
Nicola is roommates/best friends with Cassie, and they have just moved into an apartment together. A knock on the door by Max, changes her life forever!!!
Max is an assistant to Rita and Isabelle who want Nicola to play the lead in the play! It's down to Max to get her to agree... But there is a slight problem... Max and Nicola were childhood sweethearts and had a bad break up 5 years previously!!!
Without giving away any spoilers, i will just say...
This is a journey for them both in every way possible... Especially emotionally!!! With twists and turns that will leave you white knuckled and screaming at your kindle in places, it turned into a brilliant book that i would recommend for any one who enjoys a light read with a HEA!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful! 2 May 2017

Delightful! I love Shakespeare. I’m a Thespian. I’m a sucker for second chance stories. This had all the makings of a book I was going to want to read more than once. I performed in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and my sister played Tatiana. So, the play within the story held meaning for me. The author delivers witty dialog with believable characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the story from start to finish. I truly hope the author decides to explore the other character’s stories.

Received in exchange for a honest review.

So love the book overall and can’t wait to read the next. I had a few growls here and there but overall I really really enjoyed. The princess bride quotes that were switched as to who said life is pain princess was totally awesome.

What had me growl: Lachlan at the end. He was a wee bit green eyed and just frustrating. Peter Max’s brother he was selfish and irritating at times. What he did to help contribute to Max’s downfall and his attitude when he first came into the picture was frustrating. I liked how he was there for his brother at the end and wanted to make sure Nicci didn’t hurt him again. Nicola frustrated me. She was all her broke my heart I can’t be with him yet she led him on. And she never thought about what it was like for Max when they broke up. She thought he didn’t care. She didn’t see the fallout and his downward spiral and fight to become who he is now and change only what she felt and believed. She thinks of herself more than Max and that frustrated me.

I loved the setting of this with the play being a Midsummer Nights dream. To me this was apropos for the story going on. they were all in lust of some form or another. Max and Nicci were fighting their feelings and Nicci was mostly living with the past. Max was but in a different way his was not fear of his heart breaking but fear of what the break would do to him. the first one cost him alot and has him with a brother feeling guilty.

Seeing the change in Max from what he and others tell us he once was and how he is able to be with others in the theatre and help them with their parts and visualizing what needs to help them understand the character and emotion needed was amazing. For me yes at times max was frustrating with his fear of his feelings for Nicci but he faced them head on and didn’t try to deny them. he was a great character. Kind and gentle when needed, hard working and hard nosed when necessary. He listened when warranted, helped with guidance when necessary and supportive. He was more even keeled and had a quiet strength for others to draw from. His perspective on things was contemplative and wasn’t one that left you thinking he was arrogant but that he was thoughtful and introspective.

The atmosphere the story was in was contemplative at times, fun and light hearted other times but charged and vibrant as well. We get some peaceful intimate moments like Max helping Nicci with Tatiana’s jealousy speech. Watching them talk about their feelings was serious and heartfelt as was Peter’s speech to Nicci towards the end. We see that this group of actors are family for each other and respect each other and support one another. The story is emotion and character driven. The supporting cast is one that can polarize at times such as Judie and her hot cold ways but attitude that has you growl, Lachlan who you begin by loving and seeing as fun loving but at the end you grr him as well. One way or another an emotion is pulled from you as you watch Max and Nicci figure out their feelings, working together and learn to let go of the past. I loved at the end how Max no matter what learned that he would be able to be okay no matter what the consequences and was glad he put himself out there. The story is delightful and endearing with some fun moments, sweet moments and some sexy times as well as we fall in love with Max and Nicci and the story of their new chance on love with one another.

4.0 out of 5 stars A romance at the theater 27 June 2016

This was a fun book. I loved the theater aspect and how the author intertwined Shakespeare through out the book. The book was just a little bit different in a good way. You had your "good guy" and your "bad guy" but neither was really good or bad and they were all friends so it was really kind of cool. I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to reading another book by Eliza Walker.
