Derek Landy writes books for "young adults". I stopped qualifying as "young" about 40 years ago. Great writing, great characters, packed with emotion and action. My daughter and I devour every new Skulduggery novel as soon as they come out, and this one was no exception.

This book certainly met my expectations. The plot twist that occurred and the cliff hangers made me not put the book down. In my opinion I believe it dragged on a little. But the fact that the reappearance of the skeleton detective was something that did not disappoint me.

Landy delivers in full once again.

The fact I've read this book from cover to cover twice in two days should speak for itself. You'd think that after 10 consecutive, damn near flawless books Landy would be starting to lose his touch, bur Midnight remains as gripping and intense as any book in the series.
The good think about having characters who are all centuries old is that it allows you to constantly reveal new things about them in order to create a story, and while this can feel a little too convenient at times, the ancient art of not fixing what isn't broken dictates that as long as Derek Landy keeps pumping out incredible books, I should probably shut my mouth and leave the writing to the experts.

"Can you please trust me?" she asked.
"I trust you with my life," he replied," just not necessarily my car."………
I was starting to lose faith in Mr. Pleasant after book 8, as the pther two weregetting worse and worse, but I kept reading, and my reward is this- one of my favourites!
When a serial killer captures Valkyries younger sister, Alice, and leads her on a mad treasure hunt to find her, Valkyrie is so desperate that she willingly takes on dangers all by herself wthout even thinking to call her partner, and all Omen Darkly can do is lie there and watch. Six hours- will Valkyrie make it on time to save her sister?
Meanwhile, Skulduggery has partnered with *********, along with ****** ****, because he thinks ********** **** has ********. *********'s son is also in the clutches of ********** ****. So the fragile truce holds ********* from putting her evil plans into action.
Do you want to know who all those people whose names I swapped out for *s are?! Then you'll have to read the book!
A man becomes god in his own house, a tenage boy gets a few surprises, good and bad, and Kes is continuing to appear. With a crazy cult on the hunt for an unspeakable evil, and Valkyrie forgettinf the rest of the world, you'd be amazed at how much happens in six hours, and even more so by the insane magic that takes pkace when the clocj strikes midnight…
Landy follows through with yet another brilliant book, so for all his fans, BUY IT! And for all his not-fans, BUY IT because if youre going to give Skuldugfery another chance, do it wih tthis book! A fab continuation of our fave skeletons magical adventures.
Yours Truly,

"No Hug?"
"Oh, I'm sorry", he said. "Valkyrie, hug him."
"I'm hugging him with my mind."
"You two are weird."

I think this is probably the worse of the Skulduggery books. The villain was to be honest abit crap. I also don't think the characters have the likeability of the characters in the earlier books (which have all been killed off).
Average. I am going to persist and buy the next one in the hope it will be better.
(I am an adult read of 40 odd rather than the YA they may be aimed at)

Just the usual brilliance from Derek Landy

This series, now 12 books and growing just doesn’t get old or repetitive.
Landy’s ability to intertwine action, mythology, pathos, sadness and tear jerking moments of genuine humanity are all wonderfully balanced out with some of the funniest one liners and dialogues to be found in literature today.
All delivered using some of the strongest and most loved characters you could ever meet.

What a book (Skulduggery Pleasant book 11 midnight.)
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 August 2018Verified Purchase
Another absolute banger by Landy; i personally think that hes really turning into one of the top childrens writers like David Walliams and Roald Dahl. Its mainly based on Abyssinia still and obviously Pleasant and Cain. When the serial killer takes Alice, Valkyrie has to complete certain challenges including killing a good friend. There are also some pretty shocking secrets involved about Abyssinia & Skulduggery, why Alice is always so happy and Abyssinia's family. The book is left on a big cliffhanger so i can only assume that Derek is already writing the 12th. I reckon it'll be called Assasination.
Keep it up Derek because at the moment they are a pleasure to read. Cant wait for No.12
