Product Description

“Any time you see Melinda Leigh’s name on a book cover, you know you’re in for a sexy, sinister, twist-ridden read.” —USA Today

Curator Dr. Louisa Hancock left behind Maine and her troubled past for Philadelphia and a job at a prominent museum. Just when it seems that Louisa’s new life is safe from her dark secrets, the body of a museum intern is found—the victim of a brutal and baffling murder.

Louisa realizes this is no random crime. And when another intern goes missing, the abduction is linked to the only man who has ever tempted Louisa’s heart—Conor Sullivan, the owner of a Philly sports bar. Louisa’s past has taught her to be wary, but her heart refuses to believe Conor is guilty.

Now Conor and Louisa must dodge a police investigation as they race to find the real killer before another girl turns up dead. In their darkest hour, they find themselves drawn to each other. But trusting Conor could be deadly, especially as the evidence against him mounts…and as a merciless killer targets Louisa as the next victim.

This is the first Melinda Leigh book that I have read and it was great. There is a lot of depth in her writing and I do not want to ruin it for other readers. All I can say if you like gripping suspense and a story you can't put down this is it.
Conor Sullivan is a guy's guy. He lives above the bar he runs with his family and has a moral code more should emulate. He helped raise his family when his parents died and has finally paid off the debt incurred by that tragedy by establishing a successful operation. His customers love him, and he loves his little section of Philly. Then this former acquaintance gets a job at a nearby museum. They had met in author Melinda Leigh's previous book in the series. "Midnight Betrayal" immediately kicks into high gear with the introduction of Sullivan. He intervenes in a situation involving some drunk college kids, helps a girl get home and rescues a dog. He and Louisa Hancock, who got the job as the assistant curator at the museum, reconnect because there's a nasty spate of murders and the bodies have strange Celtic symbols carved into the skin. There are strange similarities to the killings previously in Maine. Louisa is a bit of an ice queen, but Conor sees something in her. She's pretty but emotionally flat. He enjoys teasing her, but she shuts him down. He's got all the colour in the story. Conor keeps at it, and Louisa begins to let down her guard. Will she let him in before the cops convict him of the killings? He didn't do it, but the evidence points his way. Can she figure out who did it before they come after her? This book has it all - Romance, murder, suspense, betrayal, and an ending you can't figure out until the ending. If this is what you like, than it's a no brainer - read this book.
