Product Description

A story of healing and confronting demons…

Detective Aidan Calloway is rock-solid strong. He's a man of justice—loyal to his friends, family, and job—even if it requires bending a law…or two. He shields himself behind an abrasive, fearless facade, until a phone call one night chips his armor and throws his perfectly planned, hollow life into a tailspin.

Jessie Vega is the epitome of optimism. His carefully crafted attitude of hope and positivity protects him from a past filled with too much pain. When a ghost from a dark time resurfaces and nearly breaks him, he must tap into his inner strength or risk losing everything he's worked so hard to build.

But Jessie can't do it alone. He must fight to break through Aidan's ironclad defenses to reveal the heart of the man hiding beneath the tough surface and mend his damaged spirit. Only then can they truly heal and become strong enough to battle the demons that haunt them and threaten their chance to finally be together.

Book four in the Men from Halfway House see Detective Aiden Calloway and Jessie Vega get together. Holy smoke batman, I cried in this book, its was a long journey for these two men and started with a bang that I didn't expect. Who knew hiding under all that snark from Aiden Calloway was a heart of gold just beating in time to the Jessie Vega tune. This story was very well told, touched on many difficult issues and just made Ms. Reece my new go to author. With returning main characters in Matt and Julian and Sam, Cole and Ty, even Hunter and Cam, and a cameo mention of Dray and Vann this book dealt with everything almost including the kitchen sink. Everything about this book made me fall in love with all the guys from the series all over again. So glad I've read them all. I'm ready with Kleenex and chocolate for Vann and Dray, think I'll need them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another amazing addition to the series 30 April 2016

Jaime Reese has done it again. A Mended Man is fantastic. This book is different from the first 3 books in The Men of the Halfway House series. Neither of the main characters live in the Halfway House this time. However, the characters from the previous books are also a big part of this one.

The writing is flawless. From the first page to the last I was captivated. My heart broke over and over for these two men, but was repaired beautifully by the end. The chemistry that Aiden and Jessie have towards one another is undeniable. Having said that, the sexual tension and how they danced around the other was super frustrating. I just wanted them to give in already. Only, you know there is something that both of these men have deep inside that keeps them from moving forward.

Once the barriers they built started to crumble, they were finally able to take their relationship to the next step. This process was heartbreakingly beautiful. The sex scenes are hot and written with so much passion that you can't help but experience the depth of the feelings they have for one another.

A Mended Man is not just angst and healing. It's had suspense, action and funny moments throughout the book as well. The banter between Jesse and Aiden had me laughing often. I love how Jesse was able to bring a part of Aiden out that was long ago buried away.

The secondary characters add so much to this story. The strength and love they show the main characters is touching. As an added bonus, we were able to once again witness the love they have for their own partners.

It was also nice to see how even Aiden's’ coworkers relationships improved the more Aiden was able to break down some of his protective walls. I would love to see Wall have his own story as well as Bull. If by chance this happens, I am curious to see if maybe their stories will intertwine.

Overall, A Mended Heart by Jaime Reese is brilliant. You don't want to miss out on this book or this series. In order to fully understand the characters and the background of the series I recommend starting with book 1, A Better Man.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book Four is out of this world! 3 May 2016

Book four of the Men of Halfway House Series is Aidan and Jessie's story. I was a little nervous about this one because Aidan was not one of my favorite people in the previous book, but being that rare story weaver that Jaime is, she made me fall head over heels for him and Jessie. It has become my favorite of the four and Aidan, he's my favorite character hands down.

There is so much more to Aidan than meets the eyes. He comes across as hard, closed off and has no room in his life for failure. Jaime does such an awesome job of writing his feelings, of letting us into his world, to the whys and events that brought him to the person he is. Aidan knows he's in love with Jessie but he also realizes that the way he is, he cannot do anything about it. Until...that moment when Jessie needs him most. Then Aidan throws caution to the wind and it will change their futures forever.

Jessie just plain loves Aidan and he is unwilling to walk away. Every time he tells Aidan how much he loves him, how he's not going anywhere, I cried. Literally, this is a massive Kleenex book. Jessie has patience and he needs a lot of it. In my opinion, he literally saves Aidan from the demons that haunt him. No one else could have ever gotten through to him. One of the things I love most about Jessie is no matter what he's been through, he finds a way to keep it positive. Yes, he has his moments but he isn't letting the past shape his life. I think that was one of the reasons he could empathize with Aidan.

The storyline will keep you in suspense as Aidan works toward finding the person out to hurt Jessie and bring his friends back home from Witness Protection. It is not a book you want to put down once you start and you will find yourself thinking about it until you can get back to finish it. Jaime touched on subjects that reminded me of a person within my family I hold dear to my heart. Anyone who doesn't understand that "love is love" should read this book. It is a game changer and will change their whole perspective!

I cannot say enough good things about this book. It left me hungering for more...I can't wait to read the next one and hopefully get a glimpse of how all my favorite men are doing! Congrats, Jaime! I would give you a hundred stars and more for this one.
5.0 out of 5 stars My New Favorite M/M Couple 💏 2 May 2016

10 plus stars⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I now have a new favorite m/m couple, Aiden and Jessie. Fav m/m couple they're only like a tenth of a point behind my fav couple of all-time, Shade and Lily from Jamie Bagley's "Last Riders Series".

I'm going to try to review this with no spoilers. Lol 😁 let's see how that works.

Aiden and Jessie's story was deep and at times heart-wrenching. It was also uplifting and heartwarming. The prologue and first few chapters left me hurt and angry. I wanted to find Michael and string him up by his balls. Then to find out what happened to Aiden I was speechless heartbroken. Although this book was long it kept me enthralled the entire time. I hated when at 4am I could no longer keep my eyes open and had to put it down to get a few hours sleep. I woke up this morning and went right back to reading, grabbing a yogurt because I couldn't wait the time to cook breakfast. I loved the fact that Hunter risked everything to come and make sure his friends were okay and that Aiden and Jessie worked their butts off to make it safe for Hunter and Cam to return home. Cole was hilarious and lovable as usual. Ty and Aiden talked and worked on getting their relationship back to were it used to be. Julian and Matt where as supportive as ever and I loved the new team, Sunny, Manny, Travis and Wall. It took a while but I'm so happy Aiden and Jessie got there HEA, I'm especially glad they got their peace. I 💘 and highly recommend this book and this series, I can't wait to see what comes next.
4.0 out of 5 stars Really good!! 8 May 2017

This was a really good book and a great addition to the series. This was a very complex and difficult book to read because it's has too many heartbreaking things. Aidan and Jessie are too complex deep characters with lots of baggage that translate the storyline into a very dramatic and intense one. The only reason it's not a five star read it that it started with a very strong momentum but then it drag for a while maybe until the 70% of the book. I know it had to do with all the explanations that you need to understand the story but sometimes it look to stretch up too much to garner my attention for a long time. But after all that the intensity grew up all over again to a great finale. So no matter what it's a great story. So grab a copy and read it. Happy reading!

I hadn't even gotten to chapter one and this book had me crying. While Aidan & Jessie's story is beautiful, it is filled with so much pain and angst. I was very glad that their feelings weren't dragged out (does he know how I feel, does he feel the same, etc.) They had a LOT to work on before they could even think of being in a relationship. They each have painful pasts that come back to haunt them and they have to find the strength to fight their enemies together.

This book is SO beautifully written (as are the other books in the series). I was just glad that after tearing my heart to shreds, Ms Reese put it back together by the end.

POV ... 3rd person

Stand alone or series... part 4 of a series while it can be read as a stand alone, you'd get more out of it to read 1-3 first

Would I recommend it ... YES

Did it give me a book hangover... YES

Would I read it again ... YES
