Product description

Product Description

Even clearing her name might not keep her from prison.

After chasing down a Kin fugitive, Morgan Jacobs must face the truth: she’s dangerous. And the only way to protect herself and those around her is to gain control over her powers. But a madman, Ander, is toying with her, torturing her physically and psychologically, and in the end he plans to murder her.

She’d love to lock herself away, hide from the threat and get her powers under control, but Rika — the team’s computer specialist — is accused of hacking a Kin leader’s server and stealing all the secrets on it, and that leader is threatening to charge the entire team with the crime. Now the team needs to clear Rika’s name, figure out who hacked the server, and return the stolen secrets — before they’re all locked up alongside the fugitive they just apprehended.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm glad I got into the Medusa series 15 September 2016

I stumbled upon this volume while looking for a new urban fantasy fix. I'm glad I got into the Medusa series! CI Black's style is fast-paced, like Shannon Meyer's Rylee Adamson series is. Her main character, Morgan, suddenly discovers that she is not quite human and in fact is a creature of myth (a Gorgon). Learning you can turn someone to stone with your gaze and not having any training is enough to make almost anyone turn into a recluse, which is where the story starts. As Morgan is a U.S. Marshal by training this makes it even harder for her. The first 3 novels provide the "base" for the world CI Black is building and that she continues through the remaining 8 novels. There is a long story arc, with each novel building upon the other. CI does a good job in "weaving" plot threads throughout the series. My biggest criticism could be that the novels are a bit short. This novel delves further into the world of the Kin (the mythological/non-human world), and there could be more material for a novella, based on some of the characters introduced in this novel. Watching Morgan learn to function in this new world, and meeting the mysterious Alexander Gage and Lachlin, joining their FBI team makes for a fun read, as a whole. More of Alexander's back story is introduced in this novel, giving his character greater depth as well. Great plane reading - it's a good read when you have a few hours to sit and escape.

I liked the first two books and was looking forward to book #4. I was very surprised and disappointed in how short that book was. It felt like it was rushed job. I am trying to decide if I want to continue with the series and risk wasting my money again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pissed me off 21 June 2016

Firstly, the timing and plot development are SLOW. There's not enough time between action segments where the lead character repeatedly gets beaten to a pulp despite allegedly being powerful. The sexual "tension" quickly becomes forced. I tried give the author the benefit of the doubt, but on purchasing book 4, I realized that the books were at best a couple of hundred pages each and deliberately edited so that the first book cut off at a "cliff hanger" forcing another purchase. Considering the other issues, it was clearly just a money grubbing ploy. Not worth it.
3.0 out of 5 stars Partial story ~ ugh 29 September 2016

I feel like this was just a chapter in a longer novel. Bits and pieces. I feel completely lost and am not sure I'm interested in continuing the maze to find the next bit of info.
