TOP 500 REVIEWER
The Medical Examiner is a short story in the Women’s Murder Club series by prolific American author, James Patterson. It is published under the BookShots: stories at the speed of life banner and is co-written by Maxine Paetro. It starts out with Claire Washburn being surprised by a body in the morgue that is not actually dead. Lindsay Boxer is on vacation with Joe Molinari, so Richie Conklin investigates. But reporter Cindy Thomas, always after a good story, sniffs out some details of her own and gets into hot water.
At 125 pages, it’s a quick read, with an intriguing (and somewhat convoluted) plot, but some of the execution is a little clumsy, as if bits of it are still in draft form, and the wooden dialogue in the prologue does the story no favours. There also seems to be quite a bit of padding with mundane detail that has no bearing on the story. Yuki Castellano and Lindsay are conspicuous by their absence, appearing for only fleeting glimpses, so it’s really the Claire, Cindy and Richie show for this one. Perhaps essential reading for die-hard WMC fans, other readers can get it from the library.

Disappointing, poorly written, reads like an amateur wrote it. Stilted language and the girls come across as immature teenagers.

Awful!!!

I have read all the Women's Murder Club series and have really enjoyed them, until now. This is such a dreadfully written book. It's full of unnecessary detail which feels like it's been simply added to pad the book out a bit. It feels like it's been written by a child with lots of "he said" and "then she said..." I kept waiting for a shocking plot twist but it never came. Very boring book.
I've recently also read the start of the Harriet Blue series which was equally as bad. What on earth is going on Mr Patterson?!

Amateurishly written

As a fan of the Women's Murder Club series I was really disappointed. Within the series itself, the writing seems to be devolving instead of evolving. It reached its amateurish peak here. If it was the first book ever by that author, maybe it was ok...but she's done a few now. No excuse.

Started off well, but the characters are becoming unbelievable.
I know this series is aimed more for us ladies but get a bit sick of all the back slapping and love fests!!!
To be honest I wished the killer had put his glasses on and shot the reporter, one boring character gone.
