In this wonderful book, Dr. Moskowitz, an MD and specialist in pain medicine, shares with us how he has used medical cannabis successfully with his patients to lower pain, end pain, soothe PTSD, reduce the use of other drugs, lose weight, increase functionality, regain sleep, peace, and more. Medical Cannabis addresses many medical conditions in the book - Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, MS, diabetes, chronic pain, cancer, to name a few - that can be treated, slowed down, and/or even reversed. Doctors and patients alike will value this reference guide, covering topics needed to understand, begin and enhance healing programs.
Medical Cannabis is generously referenced, providing many helpful charts, pictures, and diagrams. It's a well-written, even inspiring read. As for the program, I personally have had excellent results so far. I continue to learn as I go, and improve my own well-being as I learn. Since starting down this path I am feeling so much better, and more optimistic about future continued progress.
Dr. Moskowitz elegantly describes how our endocannabinoid system - located in each of us - interfaces with our brain, guts, and body parts, in health and in illness. We learn how this system relates to our levels of inflammation, immunity, bone formation, organ health, mood, and more.
Phytocannabinoids are substances found inside cannabis (e.g., Sativas, Indicas and Hybrids). Phytocannabinoids interact with our endocannabinoid system to create healing. CBD and THC are two well-known phytocannabinoids, but you will learn of others also. Healing properties include: anti-diabetics, anti-spasmodics (for muscle spasms), anti-bacterials, anti-inflammatories, bone stimulants, pain relievers, anti-emetics (for nausea), and neuro-protectives – to name a few - from a wealth of assorted benefits.
How can we take best advantage of Medical Cannabis? Dr. Moskowitz lays out the concept of TCP, or Total Cannabinoid Profile. Think in terms of TCP to maximize your benefits. You’ll learn how to optimize your TCP, or “ensemble effect” over time. CBD does not get you “stoned”; THC is mood altering. Your personalized program will lie somewhere on the spectrum according to your needs. You’ll discover detailed charts providing beginning, intermediate and advanced programs, as well as suggestions for figuring out your own dosages and customizing your own way forward.
As I began my own healing journey with Medical Cannabis, my fears about cannabis did not prove true, and my concerns were addressed. I have a better outlook on life today than I thought possible even a year ago, and I look forward to further health improvements – and nice surprises - ahead as I continue to optimize my own healing program.
First, please read the other reviews for this exceptional publication. I want to add my personal experience here. I have been dealing with chronic pain for over 40 years. I have tried every medical intervention and medication that western medicine has to offer. I have neither found long term relief and have experienced some debilitating side effects. Several years ago, our son had back surgery and was given of prescription for Oxycontin which we reluctantly filled. He was concerned about using Oxy, and asked if he could try cannabis for his pain. I had never heard cannabis could be used for pain but agreed to his request. It worked and the Oxy was thrown out.
Fast forward to today. The medical community is now beginning to acknowledge the many benefits of medical cannabis. But how to administer it, what amount, strain, and proportion -- it's complicated! "Medical Cannabis" helps to untangle all the specifics for patients and providers alike. It is very well researched, well written, and will likely become the primary resource for those seeking an alternative to pharmaceuticals, or to combine with medication for a better response.
"Medical Cannabis" may not be the only book on the topic of treating medical issues, but it is by far one of the most helpful for patients. It is our "go to" reference now, and will be for quite some time.
I also recommended this book to medical marijuana patients and caregivers through my organization - sabinaholistichealth.org that provides treatment funding to medical cannabis patients.
Thank you for writing this book!
