So good , Annabelle just gets better, this is Peters story, and believe me it gets a little steamy with these two.

This although being part of the 12 Days Of Christmas Series is also part of the Cocky Gents too.

Peter is a musician, all he’s every wanted is to study and play with the best teachers in the world. Suddenly a widow he’s long admired becomes his focus and he changes his destiny, he’s never desired someone as much as her , can he makes her admit she feels the same .

Excellent writing and enjoyable reading.

Both main characters were introduced in previous books, Peter as a younger son driven by his love for music to follow his own path and Miranda as one of his friends’ short dalliance.

Having felt loneliness for most of her life when widowed, Miranda lost not only the only man who really took care of her but also her only friend.
Lost, she engages in meaningless affairs trying to fulfill an emptiness that eats at her. For taking lovers, she is now only barely tolerated.
Peter is following his muse, and soon leaving for an apprenticeship, he has few times for a paramour. Yet when in the course of a party, they meet again, he takes a chance. And while she offers only a trivial pursuit, he proposes her a more substantial one, inside and out of the bedchamber.

Yet what does she have to offer when she had a childless marriage, a tattered reputation when he has his whole future in front of him.
The author once more rocks the historical romance genre with a loving man who never acts like an alpha / cavern man / jealous fellow, he is comprehensive and listens to Miranda. He does not judge, instead he offers his shoulder for support and his heart for more. But will she take the leap when she fells she has so few to offer and she might cost him his dreams.

Synopsis: Miranda, Lady Starling, is a widow desperate for affection and a little bit broken inside. More or less a fallen woman, she no longer believes that goodness exists in the world. Then she meets Mr. Peter Spencer, a cellist whose music owns his heart and soul. Or so he thought, until he meets Miranda and discovers a lady worth loving and a future worth fighting for...

My Opinion: MAYFAIR MAIDEN was without a doubt an enchanting and lovely read. And if by chance you're familiar with Ms. Anders writing and recognize Peter's character from her "Lord Love a Lady" and "Regency Cocky Gents" series of books, you will no doubt relish this story. The romance was a beautiful blend of both sexy and sweet and the passion between this couple was palpable too. I'm usually not a fan of sex scenes in novellas, but they were necessary for the plot to work in this one and didn't feel at all gratuitous. There was even a nice surprise at the end that I guessed from a few key words that were used, but that wasn't until it was already unfolding before my eyes.

There was only thing that kept me from giving this book five stars like I wanted to, and that was Miranda herself. Generally I'm not fond of "merry" widows but she surprised me and I actually ended up really liking her. However, she wasn't as well developed as Peter (who I loved) seemed to be and the reader is not witness to the changes in her character either. Instead seven months pass in a blink and we are told of the "new" Miranda rather than shown. Overall it was still an emotionally engaging and romantic story though and one I'm so glad I read and would definitely recommend. Ms. Anders is obviously a very talented author and I look forward to reading more from her soon =)

First let me say the writing is superb and I enjoy her style, just not the story line. This story ends at 86% mark on my e-reader, so very short novella. Seems to be a theme with this series, written by different author's - ends early in page count. Obviously I'm in the minority rating this review because all the rest are 5 stars as I'm posting.

Guess I am a snob, because our h had few morals. Yes, she loved her deceased husband and didn't cheat on him. But, she had numerous affairs since his death and only thing that kept her from being a "kept women," she didn't charge -lol.

She was older than the H by only 3 or so years - she was approaching 30. She even slept with one of his friends (prior to him) and it didn't phase him. His thinking is what is good for the goose is good for the gander - appreciate his forthright thinking. Not familiar if this was the thinking for the time period.

They have sex within about an hour of meeting. Then it is sex daily and I just didn't feel a connection to this couple. Heat level on sex - 2.5 out of 5.

Near the end the H gives up his dream, she becomes domesticated in household work and we get HEA. It all happened so fast, from sex to his wanting to marry her etc. This would have been better if a longer novella. (ljb)
