4.0 out of 5 stars the bases are loaded, will he accept the perfect pitch or strike out? 9 January 2017

A wonderful sports romance that brings a smile to your face as you watch professional catcher Matt Jackson bobble the ball when he meets Dusty Carmichael, a pitcher from a pro women's softball team. Ms. Joachim has a way of creating a world where the characters feel like family and the storyline pulls you in as if you were right there with them. Matt and Dusty are such a cute couple, they understand the others dedication and love of the game. Both have insecurities, both make mistakes and for being a pitcher/catcher team they need to work on reading the given sign. Each new story may focus on a couple but you always get to learn more about the supporting characters in the immediate group. The storyline is easy to read, filled with fun, humor ,interesting information and has moments that will touch your emotions. Lets not forget those moments when you just want to smack the character and ask them what they were thinking. At the end of this story we are given a glimpse of the next team member to stumble upon that perfect pitch, leaving us eagerly awaiting the start of the new game and the road to bringing it home. I have always enjoyed this authors work and look forward to each of her new series. Ms. Joachim never disappoints and always keeps me engaged and entertained.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great addition to the series. 17 January 2017

Jean did it again with this great addition to her new baseball series. This is a home run! This is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I do however recommend reading the first book in the series because it is a great book as well!

We were introduced to Matt in Dan's book and I'm so glad to see that he was next in the line up. Matt has a heart of gold, but doesn't realize it. He thinks that he is not worthy of a woman's love and does what he can to make sure he keeps his emotional distance from women. He doesn't want to hurt them and make them leave. What he doesn't realize is that all the tragedy he's had in life was never his fault. It takes a strong woman to make him realize that..and he finds that in Dusty.

Dusty is softball pitcher that was asked to work a baseball camp in Florida during the off season...what she doesn't expect is to find the man of her dreams. Their first meeting causes a bit of a rough start, but eventually things begin to work out for this likely pair. What better match up for a catcher than a star pitcher.

This story was well written. Had a great story line. The characters were easy to become emotionally attached to. The descriptions to details were done well. The dialogue was easy to follow and was engaging.

All in all, a great read and I can't wait for Jake's story next. I hope Nat and Nikki's comes after that. I'm sure their story will hit it out of the park as well.

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely!

Would I read more from this author? Yes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling story! 22 March 2017
By Allie Sumner - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
This book delves deeper into who the characters are than I felt the first book in the series did. The romance, while present, is more a component of the story than the whole story. Matt Jackson is a man whose life has been fraught with disaster and heartache. He’s well guarded and for good reason. I found myself increasingly intrigued the more I read. The mystery of Matt Jackson is it’s own seduction. He’s so real in my mind I have to continually remind myself he’s just a character from a really good book.

Normally, as a reader I have a bit of a disconnect from the story. With Matt, cracking open each new layer of his life broke that disconnect further and further until emotionally, I was fully vested in this story.

While Dusty is an interesting character, it’s Matt who really steals the show. The summary leads one to think the story is more about Dusty than I felt it really was. After reading, I don’t feel like I know her as well as I should. I feel like this story is more a focus on Matt than her and would like to see her character fleshed out a bit more. I also felt like their relationship could use to be fleshed out a bit more too. I love that she was there for him but there were a few moments that I felt should of been more emotionally charged and didn’t come across that way. If there is anywhere in this story I would advise needs work, that would be it. I felt it for Matt but not so much for Dusty. It left a bad taste in my mouth for her.

I loved seeing this side of Joachim’s writing. I truly feel like Matt’s character is one I will not soon forget. There is a scene in the book where his worst fear is almost completely realized. I was there with him as the rain pelted his skin and the lights from the emergency vehicles painted his skin with red and blue. I felt his fear. I felt his dread. I could feel the fear ball up in my chest as each word flew past my eyes and painted pictures in my mind. My heart raced with anticipation of what he would find. It was captivating.

This is really two love stories in one. It’s Matt and Dusty, but it’s also Matt’s story of redemption and forgiveness. I would love to see more of Matt and Dusty. This series has caught me in it’s web and I will definitely be continuing with the next book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another clear winner 21 May 2017
By The Mysterious Amazon Customer - Published on

I actually goofed up and read books 1, 3 and 4 of the Bottom of the Ninth series before reading Matt Jackson, Catcher, even though it's book 2. The good side of this is I can definitely confirm that, outside of a truly minor teaser at the end of each book which hints at the next book, each of these novels stands alone.

The neat thing about this series is how Jean Joachim uses the platform of a close-knit pro baseball team to paint very diffferebt pictures in each novel. Oh, they're all sports romances (and excellent examples of that genre, which is good as it's a fave of mine), but each of the H and h stories really is a very different romance due to the H's background and how widely different the heroine's have been. Matt Jackson, Catcher, is no different in this regard. I'm not going to summarize it (as the kindle blurb and other reviewers have done a good job of this), but I will simply note that once again we have a superb plot, wonderful lead characters (yes, I'm a bit in love with Matt, even if I wanted to smack him a couple of times) with a superb romance between Matt and Dusty, great supporting characters (with fun cameos from the book 1 H and h and by the other players who I know will get their own books), realistic sports action (hey, that's important for a sports romance!) and the excellent writing I've come to expect from this author. Bottom line for this installment of Botton of the Ninth: another clear winner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing 13 March 2017
By Margaret - Published on
There was something about this couple that grabbed me from the get-go. Matt isn't a perfect hero. Oh no, he is far from it. alwaysMatt is definitely flawed but that's what makes him so realistic.
Dusty is just the woman to prove to him that being scared nothing to be scared about. Being in sports herself she knows what it's like to be on the road and being a woman she knows that falling in love is scary.
But they learn that it's better fort them to be together in love and happy then be super and miserable without each other

If you're a sports romance fan you'll want to add this one to your library. Actually, go get the first one as well.
