The above from our 11 yr old who loved it. My husband accurately describes it as Trouble (the game with the popper dice rolling) with an education.
One reviewer commented that, once past the halfway point on the board, one could only use addition to plod to the finish. We use the subtraction option to move our pawns backward into the first half of the board, waiting for a chance to use multiplication to jet propel ourselves close to the finish.
Our 9 and 7 year old were less intensely interested and found it more difficult, but still doable... especially after we told them that the actual time they spent on their turns could be applied to their school math practice homework. They do, however, enjoy playing with support.
It's an excellent game.
Update: This is now our favorite family game! The now 10 yr old and almost 8 year old are getting the hang of it and enjoying it. A great investment and I love the fact that it's a small business. They have a great webpage with links to math games and curricula. Can't rate this highly enough!
Received it, looked at the board and read through the instructions thinking "huh, seems a bit complicated". Heart sunk even lower when daughter starts playing and goes "Hey! It's a MATHS GAME!!!" Uh oh, sprung.
Turns out all she wanted was to go get some paper for workings. It's easy once you start. We played it all that evening and ended up missing our movie night. And have played it every day for the 4 days since then. Son is basically obsessed, and daughter is quietly joining in each game too. I'm really enjoying it as well.
It's a shame the school holidays are ending, we are really loving this game!
The rules are very simple; at first it looks like no more than a small twist on "Aggravation" or "Sorry." But it's much more: you really Will need to add, subtract, multiply and divide to make best use of your rolls, and it's really great painless practice to get those arithmetic facts to become second nature, the way we need them to be for true mastery.
The beautiful board and playing pieces are nice bonus. All in all, a great use of both educational and "fun" budget.
