This novel is a real page-turner. I was drawn in to the world of the novel and found the pace and action very satisfying. I cannot speak to the historical accuracy of the novel's setting and major incidents, but it had the feel of being well researched. The author dedicated some space to notes on his research which I confess I passed over. The characters are well developed and believable, and I was very impressed with the way the author manages to weave in information about various forms of combat in the period - particularly longbow archery - which gave me the feeling I was really learning something new as well as making the novel a more immersive experience.
The ultimate judgement can be found in the fact that my first move after finishing the book was to go onto Amazon and try to buy the next book in the series. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until later in the year for the next installment!
