Master of Sanctity is the second book in the Legacy of Caliban series following on directly from Ravenwing and will be followed by The Unforgiven and is also linked to the Purging of Kadillus (Battles novel) and Angels of Darkness (Dark Angels standalone novel) taking place around 15 years after the latter novel. Angels of Darkness is one of my favourite of the Space Marine novels as it's something quite different to many of the other novels and delves deeper into the Dark Angels and the Fallen suggesting everything isn't quite as black and white as made out and raising some controversial views on what happened with the Dark Angels during the Heresy.
I was pleased to find Ravenwing continued this story but was disappointed with it as the overall story is relatively straightforward and I dislike the Space Marine bikes although that's no fault of the author. I thought Master of Sanctity was better as it does go back into some of the points raised in Angels of Darkness although that makes up a fairly small part of the book. As the name of the book suggests it's mainly told by Sapphon, the head of the chaplains mixed in with a couple of other characters from Ravenwing. Most of the book is focused on a mission comprising both the Deathwing and the Ravenwing hunting the Fallen, most of the interesting parts are those with new recruits being brought into the Deathwing and trying Terminator armour for the first time.
Unfortunately the book does suffer from being the one in the middle and much of it feels like padding for the next book with a very sudden and unsatisfying ending. The other frustration is that because the book involves many codex characters you know nothing can happen to them as they must stay the same which takes out a lot of the suspense.
Overall it's not a bad read but I'm hoping The Unforgiven will be more on par with Angels of Darkness.
