Product Description

A romance novella set in the 18th century by bestselling author, Jo Beverley. This story of love and magic with a twist on the Robin Hood story received an honorable mention in Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of 2010.

Rob Loxsleigh has been searching for his "marrying maid" all his adult life and has only days left to find her before Oberon, Lord of Faery, can claim a terrible victory over his family and his line. At last she's there, before his eyes in St. James's Park, but Martha Darby wants nothing to do with a London rake in his satin and lace. She's the respectable daughter of a Dean of York Cathedral, and as soon as Rob tries to woo her, she heads resolutely north.

Thus follows a lively pursuit, with Rob determined to persuade, to charm, and even to seduce, as warring Oberon and Titania urge on their human representatives, and disaster comes nearer day by day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short story 28 May 2016

Fantasy romance set in Georgian England. Short story.

Rob Is in trouble. If he doesn't find his "marrying Maid", he & all of his relatives will die. Titiana & Oberon help & hinder his efforts.

Martha is an "old" spinster of 24. Her father was a Canon in Yorkshire & she's been raised with propriety & common sense. No fairy stories for her!

This was a charming story. JB is a master of the romantic short story & I really love her work!

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting novella, quick read 27 March 2015

This novella was part of an anthology of science fiction/fantasy stories by various authors. I enjoyed the fantasy supernatural quality of this book, bringing in Faery, and Oberon and Titania, still playing their tricks on humankind. It would have done well as a fully fleshed out novel as well, but it worked well for the anthology stipulations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Should have been a full length novel 26 August 2013

A good short story but I would have liked to have seen the characters and story developed in the length of a novel. The plot was sufficiently different and interesting to have deserved more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining 26 July 2013

The story was entertaining. I gave it a 3 star because it was so hurried. Then again it is a novella. Liked the characters and hope to see them again in another story as secondary/visiting characters. Keep the full length books coming I enjoy them much more.
