The basic plot was good but the only character that felt even remotely real was the best friend. I can't exactly work out why but the dialogue was awkward. They sounded too cheerful and perhaps a little formal. There was plenty of moments the could have really added emotional depth but the characters never really seemed to feel things properly. Basically their emotions were talked about but not projected. Even at moments of real drama I felt no empathy for the characters, that's not normal for me. Overall it was a disappointing book.
