I couldn't live without pain.
I'd been born into a life of torture and I walked the lonely road of torment, praying for mercy. I was scarred mentally. I was deformed physically. I was mutilated emotionally.
I was a sailor lost at sea, a soul lost in limbo, a shell of a man with no hope.
Until I found her. My fiery-haired, crystal-eyed little one who brought light to a life that knew nothing but darkness.
But she had dark shadows of her own. A past filled with anguish and brutality. A future that promised nothing but the barren life I understood too well.
We were two victims. Two loveless souls searching for something to live for. We were monsters. We were evil. We were doomed.
Our scars ran deep and our grasp on each other depended only on the search for punishment - for the next slice of pain that made us feel alive. We lived for the hurt, we lived for the anger. We lived to mark each other with intensity, belonging, and our own messed up version of recovery.
This isn't a love story. It's a story that cuts. It's a story that captivates. It's a story that questions morals and crosses the line of sanity.
It's a twisted story, one you won't see coming until it's too late...

Well what a read this was! This has been on my mind all week. I normally start a book and finish it within the day, but annoyingly life kept stopping me from devouring this in one sitting. It's taken me 3 days! Mind you it's a long story so even if I had the time it would have taken me longer than usual. It may be a long book but every single word was needed.
This book gave me lots of feels, sickened, sad, desperate, worried, anxiousness, curious, relief, hope, happiness. So many feels on this journey!
Benny had a very abusive life right from the beginning. It got worse after his mother was brutally killed and she was no longer there to protect him! This is a gut wrenching tale of Benny's life and how he was made to lead his life by his father until his 18th birthday, when he broke free from that life to fall straight into another hard life on the streets! I was begging for him to get a break, my heart ached for him, until Faith came into his life. I had hope that she could fix him but she was just as broken as Benny was. They were both tormented, broken souls and now my heart ached for them both!
Things happen that I really didn't expect and neither did Benny!
Can they fix each other or will they break each other even more? Will they ever be able to survive without pain?
I can't recommend this enough, Rebecca has done a brilliant job, I was captivated by this and I think it will stay with me for a long time to come!

Benny hasn't had an easy upbringing in all honesty his upbringing is dark dark dark. My heart broke for the child Benny in this book. His story is moving and wrapped with darkness which molds his future and taints his life.
Rebecca wrote from the soul when she did this book, she shows that life isn't all unicorns and roses its actually a rather screwed up path some of us must travel.
When we meet faith she is also pretty screwed up but she makes the book take on a whole new level. Shes the other half of Benny the part he doesn't realise he needs until he's forced to be a part from.

There are a few parts of this book which will have you clasping your hand over your mouth in terror and you definitely wont be putting it down in a hurry

5.0 out of 5 stars 5* 13 February 2016

★★★★★
So it’s no secret how much I LOVE Rebecca’s previous books, but I was actually pretty nervous about this one... I had a special hatred for any character that hurt or who had a bad word to say about Curtis (from the Twisted series)... You know unless he had done something to deserve it and even then it was a bit of a sketchy line... What can I say?! I love the guy! So I was nervous about reading Benny’s story because he was someone that seemed to have a real deep seated hatred for Curtis without having an openly valid reason. I wanted to hear his side more than anything, because even though I hated him I couldn’t hate him in the way I wanted to and that just confused me, he’s so enigmatic that I couldn’t help but be intrigued by him and drawn to him like a moth to a flame.

Marked is the life story of Benny ‘The Hunter’ Wright, so you get to know every last detail of his sometimes disturbing tale straight from the man himself as it’s told entirely in his POV, and boy does he have a lot to say! Benny broke my heart at least 10 times every chapter and as I read I couldn’t stop the protective instincts from surging to life and really why would I want to? He deserves protecting, he needs someone in his corner. You really need to heed the warning that comes with this book because Benny’s story isn’t one for the faint of heart, there is a lot of heartache and a TON of evil but if you stick with it and persevere you won’t be sorry, because his story is sensational just like the man himself.

Every story has that one character that shakes it up and changes everything... For Marked that is Faith. Faith explodes into Benny’s life in a blaze of colour, turns his world upside down and gives him things he never dreamed he’d have. I don’t really know how to sum her up other than her being a philosophical firecracker! Her moods flip quicker than a coin, one minute she can be raging out and the next she can be calm and spouting off some wisdom! So while Benny had my heart in pieces and was running away with huge chunks of it, Faith kept my mind in knots and between them they had me well and truly hooked, on both them and their antics, so much so that when I had finished the book I sat there for a while thinking ‘What am I supposed to do now?!’ They are just that imperfect couple that on first glance seem co-dependant and unhealthy for each other but when you dig deeper and get to know them and their methods and the reasons behind their actions you realise that they are actually perfect for each other, because no one else will ever be strong enough to be able to fill that void, soothe the ache that they both have and whenever I asked myself ‘Why are they doing that?’ I had Faith’s words in my head ‘What the little ones see, the little ones do’ when I added in the fact that they are basically just two scared, lost kids in adult bodies everything clicked and made sense and I felt like I totally got them both by the end of the book.

Rebecca’s books are always really deep and Marked is no different, the psychology was amazing... It was actually scary sometimes how warped Benny’s mind had become from his childhood, scary but so fascinating! Like I mentioned before Marked isn’t for the faint of heart, the things that Benny has lived and survived through are shocking so just prepare yourself for the waterworks... Grab a box of tissues just in case ;)

Thank you for telling The Hunter’s story Rebecca, I am so glad I got to know and love the real Benny 

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep, Dark, Powerful and Heart Wrenching... 12 February 2016
By Alison S. Parkins Book Reviews - Published on Amazon.com

5 Stars!!!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review.

Benny 'The Hunter' Wright has a dark and soul destroying past. With secrets to hide and a childhood he wants to forget. Can Benny fight his past before it destroys him?

Marked is more than a story about survival, more than a story about finding out who you really are; it's a heart breaking story, mentally, physically and emotionally. It's a story about learning to breath, learning to live, learning to fight and discovering the real YOU whist surviving the tough cards the world has dealt you.

Rebecca Sherwin has poured her heart and soul into this story; the words are powerful, meaningful and above all else, heart wrenching. Benny's story completely broke me; I went through every emotion possible whilst reading his story. I wanted so badly to crawl into my kindle and hug him, tell him how amazing and strong he was, how much more he deserved and that he was capable of love and being loved in return. I also wanted to stand by his side and fight for him, giving him the chance at a life he deserved!

There were characters that intrigued me, characters that I absolutely loved, characters that I wanted to torture until they begged for mercy and characters that I wanted to take all the pain and hurt away from. They all will touch your soul in some way; some will steal a piece of your heart and others will stamp on it.

Marked is not for the faint hearted, if life experiences of a dark, delicate and emotionally nature can trigger you, I suggest you don't read it.

However if you love deep, dark, powerful, heart wrenching twisted story's, you will absolutely love Marked by Rebecca Sherwin.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is not a fluffy love story. 13 February 2016

This is not a fluffy love story.

How low can a person go when they start at rock bottom?

Benton Wright is a victim of his upbringing. He’s abused in every awful way you can imagine. As a child you want a teacher or doctor to step in to save him. As a teen you want him to stand up for himself. As a man you want him to move on from his past and find love.

At times Marked makes for uncomfortable reading but when things get tough, you continue because you want things to get better for him. Just when things start to look up, something else comes along that could knock a lesser man to his knees. Will he ever get an acceptable happy ending? I couldn’t see that happening.

I’ve read all of Rebecca’s previous books but this, I think is her best and most twisted yet. It’s a tough, rough ride to say the least and not for the feint hearted. There are no truly good people in this story, just varying shades grey but there are plenty of black, evil souls who are beyond redemption. Even the most pious will be baying for blood where they are concerned.

Maeked is full of dark themes like sexual violence and child abuse but your own imagination conjours up far worse imagery than Rebecca could write. So, if you want something dark, gritty, brilliantly written and dare I say, hopeful, then you’d be wise to add Marked to your tbr list. Loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's dark, twisted and captivating 13 February 2016
By Louise - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Beware, if you decided to read this book you may never be the same again. I read the synopsis for this and went into it knowing it was a twisted story. I absolutely loved the series that this is from and that was dark and twisted too. But I was not prepared for what I was in this book. In the twisted series we are introduced to Benny a fighter and he seems like a weird guy but you only know that he killed his own Dad or that is the rumour. This book takes you back to the start of Benton's life with his mother and the violence he had to endure. It made my stomach ache to read this even know it was fiction. At every turn Benny seemed to be knocked down, time and time again, and every time something nice or good comes into his life something bad follows. Benny finds his feet for a while squatting with a bunch of other homeless guys and meets a girl named Faith. Faith's back story is as bad or worse than Benny's. They need each other but they are bad for each other too. There is a constant push and pull, pain, blood, and their own kind of love. Once you start this book you will be captivated. It's one of those books you can't put down but struggle to read. You will find yourself thinking about this book days later. If you are up for a book that is so far out of the norm than this is the book for you.
