OutstandingReviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 April 2008
Another Lashner book about Victor Carl, another great read.I usually never buy books about lawyers as I don't find the legal profession very interesting, and the thought of enriching further a lawyer(which Lashner is)slightly disturbing. But to every rule there is an exception, and Lashner/Victor Carl is the exception.Marvellously written, with many twists and turns and a great sense of sly humour, you will enjoy this series. This latest adventure throws VC into a truly bizarre situation with the Trustees of an eccentric's Art Collection(the Barnes collection thinly disguised perhaps?);a robbery of 2 famous paintings many years ago;a child who went missing about the same time;a dying mother who wants to see her long lost son;debts owed by VC'S father to said mother;and all this is intertwined with a cast of strong women -a steely female FBI agent,a seductive female reporter;a tough female Real Estate agent;a gorgeous but wounded stripper;and the other lawyer in VC's practice who is drifting away.Naturally VC has no money, and is open to any way he can legally extract some from anyone involved in this complex case. You will love how all the strings begin to come together in this tale of greed;forgiveness;and a terrible crime.

William Lashner is a great storyteller and desrves to be up there ahead of Grisham and others. Buy them all, read them all!
New Author to meReviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 November 2010
This is the first William Lashner novel I've read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well plotted, with plenty of twists and turns and ironically humourous throughout, I really liked Victor Carl, a new take on the "seedy lawyer with a conscience" type of character. I will be going back through the series and recommend this book to anyone looking for an entertaining crime read.

Great readReviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 February 2013
This is a real page turner. A great crime mystery. A number of parallel stories that all come together. And its funny.
Worth a readReviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 September 2015
Great characters, great dialogue and a creative storyline though stretches the imagination at times. Worth the money and I look forward to the next instalment.
