My main gripe with this watch is the display. The grey portion is is darker than some other watches, more like a dark silver... and the angle at which only the active segments can be seen is fairly narrow. Unless you angle the watch so the face is directly facing you its hard to read the time. It also performs very poorly in low light... in situations where my analog Casio's hands would be easily visible, or even the much more distinct display on my Timex Shock Ironman would be visible, on this watch its just a gray mush. You will be pushing the backlight button quite a bit in these conditions. Additionally the lens is quite reflective, adding an additional barrier to visibility when you are being lit from the side like a lamp on a table. I even had an Armitron a few years back that had a more distinct display than this. If you use this watch in well lit situations you might like it, but I'm disappointed by the legibility of the display in anything other than bright light.
I recommend if you can afford 10-20 extra bucks to move up a bit in the Timex range, do so.
Look at the picture I uploaded, you can tell the time on two of three watches.
I haven't even had this watch for a full six months before the strap broke. I contacted Timex here and it was made clear to me that the strap wasn't covered under any warranty and that I would have to pay out of pocket for a replacement. After being informed of this I lost complete confidence in this product and the company. I have owned many watches throughout my life and have worn them for years without any wristband failure. If a product breaks in less than six months why would I buy it again only to risk being disappointed by the same problems. I guess if the wristband isn't covered under warranty then that pretty much speaks for itself.
It's a Timex, ok. A Timex. It says Timex right on it, so you're not sportin' a TAG Heuer, or an Invicta or an Omega or a Rolex, so park the ego. It costs less than $20. But you'll wear it every day. Just a great watch.
If you want to spend $50 or $500 more, go ahead. You'll get the same quality and style -- it's a Japanese watch. They almost always work great. I love Casio and Seiko in this class, but this watch is my go-to. It is the equivalent of your favorite flannel shirt, or baseball cap. As my southern friend used to say: "It don't do nothin' but work."
