Product Description

Cullen McBride has been sent home from a training facility that supplies security specialists for companies operating out of country in the world's hotspots. After a career of providing security services for governments, companies and individuals he has to accept the facts of age, high blood pressure and the irreparable damage done to his ears by repeated small arms fire.
When his wife's childhood home burns to the ground, he has to wonder about his memory as well. Did he forget a cast iron pot of oil heating on the stove? His wife Madison returns from a long visit with their son, cut short because Cullen's contract in Central Asia had evaporated with his hearing.
Cullen and Madison determine that a search for a home closer to their grand daughter is in order. Cullen's searches and investigations rarely follow a path considered normal but this one takes a decidedly unique turn with Walter a unique fellow himself. Before the move to their new and more than unusual home can culminate Cullen's innate questioning mind detects something wrong at the Asian Restaurant where Cullen has assumed mentorship to the owner's young son and his effort to learn English before entering kindergarten. Throughout all is Madison's constant fascination and reminder that forty years before they had undertaken a similar search for a home which resulted only in Madison having gotten to spend the night in a Nevada brothel in Winnemucca. Cullen has no doubt that if Madison has to spend another night in a brothel or some similar occurrence, the story will be graven on his tombstone. Before that though Cullen with the physical help of Madison will have to eradicate the threat to his young student and his family and make provisions to safeguard the tomb of red headed beings which stood ten feet tall and managed to entomb themselves in a lava up-thrust that had no entrance until Walter's family found the world's largest Geode.
In the process Cullen finds that ears and good health are not necessary to good investigative work, but a very unusual thought process is.
