(Amazon First Reads) This book is not an attack upon or examination of all the modern political assassinations carried out by the "right" and the "left" of politics. It is an examination of the evidence for the assassination in 1986 of a democratically elected Prime Minister of Sweden. That the PM was considered by some to be leftist and the probability of the assassins being of the right, surely does not give those who carried out that assassination any rights to do so. Those who become enraged that this book is an attack on a political belief system are trapped in their own ideologies. What would we in Australia, NZ, Canada, UK, USA, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, etc do/think if our democratically elected leader was openly assassinated while walking down a street in our capital city?
Although this book examines the likelihood of the Swedish PM being murdered by right-wing extremists from Sweden, South Africa and the USA (CIA) acting on behalf of powerful business and government interests, it does not mean that such extremism is found solely on the right and should not be attacked for that. When this book is read and judged, it must be on the basis of evidence (and not my country right or wrong). That evidence as presented here appears substantial. It is built upon more than a decade of research, investigation, journalism and documentation at the time by Swede, Stieg Larsson, ("The Man Who Played With Fire"), and followed up for a further decade by Jan Stocklassa, this book's author. This is a true-crime political thriller about events this reader remembers quite well. Highly recommended.
