I've read this book many times as it was being prepared for publication. Enjoyed it each time! Easy read with lots of wonderful stories and photos. Mr. Taggart was a talented man who lived an interesting life as a traveling musical humorist.. Mr. Boyce's prose style lets Mr. Taggart speak directly to the reader about his late 19th and early 20th century adventures thru the use of the many letters and articles Mr. Taggart wrote to his agents and to community newspapers back in Vermont. Readers who want to hear and see Mr. Taggart, can find internet references to his many recordings as well as a talking movie (Phonofilm) he made in 1924 (full disclosure-- I wrote the index and Mr. Boyce is my husband.)
I downloaded the Kindle version so I could carry a copy with me on a recent trip. The pictures reproduced well on my Kindle Paperwhite.

Pioneering Recording ArtistReviewed in the United States on 7 May 2014
Charles Ross Taggart was a pioneering recording artist whose speciality was comedic records in a rural vein. He also was one of the earliest fiddlers on record, a fact often overlooked due to his long and succesful career in vaudeville. Taggart's recordings consisted of the "Old Country Fiddler" relating his tales of meeting the modern world, living in rural Vermont, and homespun wisdom, with some occasional fiddling thrown in to boot. This book details Taggart's life and uses personal letters, newspaper accounts, and other primary sources. The author includes transcriptions of several of Taggart's monologues. Adam Boyce often performs in the guise of Taggart's fiddler so he knows the performance end. A very good book about a nearly forgotten recording and country music pioneer. A discography of Taggart's recordings would be a nice addition to the book.

Well written, fascinating story of Charles Ross TaggartReviewed in the United States on 16 December 2013
Adam Boyce does a fine job at capturing the life of a famous fiddler, through good times and tough ones. As a fiddler myself, I found this to be a fascinating look into the past. And it's great that Adam is keeping the "persona" of Charles Taggart alive to this day in his own performances.
