Book 2 and conclusion to Gabby and Marcel’s story was a very good read. How Marcel helped Gabby through her situation with an abusive husband was handled very well by the author. And it is always good to see rat finks get what they deserve. Good book, highly recommend.

This was brutal. I’m not sure what was so hard about reading this duet, I feel that comes mostly from my own life. I really wanted to read this though so I persevered.
Marcel is just the sweet, hopeless romantic, that loves Gabby with his whole heart. After losing all his family he kinda shut himself off until he met Gabby. She broke through his walls without really trying and he could see so much light and love in her. He was the support that she truly needed.
Shanora nailed Gabby’s character. Why must we blame ourselves for our husband’s short falls? Why are they our fault? I loved watching Gabby find her strength to get out of there and follow her heart to Marcel.
Thank you Shanora for the brutal but honest story that highlights domestic violence. Thank you for not glossing over it but showing it’s true ugly nature.

An empowering, heartfelt story. Every chapter had me captivated the subject may have been a tough one but its one woman around the world deal with daily. Gabby's strength and courage throught out had you cheering her on and Marcel's constants by her side and determination to protect her was what made the story whole. There was angst, drama, heartache, passion and most of all love. A great ending to Marcel and Gabby's chapter I always love Shanora's words and this was no different. Amazing story of true love and passion, heartache and difficult times nothing makes a story better than seeing an amazing HEA!!

The Man I Need is part 2 of the series between Marcel and Gabby. We were left hanging in the first installment and I was waiting with bated breath for the second part of the series to come out. I was so happy when I was finally able to read it. I could not put it down at all.
I love Marcel for what he did to help Gabby. I don't want to give too much away so I will be vague with that and let you form your own opinions as you read the duet. Although this book was fantastic I did feel like something was missing. For the kind of man Kyle is, I expected more to happen, I expected a HUGE blow out. Other than that I really enjoyed the conclusion to this duet. I can't wait to see what else this author has in store for us.

Have to say that I feel like this duet is Shanora's strongest writing to date.
I cried, I laughed, I squirmed. She gave me plenty of emotion to go with the heat in this one and there were moments that I had to put the book down and take a moment. There are some really tough subjects covered in this book and the author does it in a really respectful way. You get the heat and sexiness you expect from one of her books but this one gave me more - it gave me characters I truly connected with and was fully invested in them getting their HEA. Definitely recommend.

I don’t want to give anything away in this review except to say that it was an epic conclusion in The Ward Duet. I don’t know what to say without spoiling it, so I’m not going to say anything except 1. you must read this book and 2. you must read The Man I Can’t Have before reading The Man I Need. It was a wonderfully written, gritty, raw and emotional read.

Sensitive subjects await in this ending of Gabby and Marcel. Very well written with a fabulous outcome/ending. Marcel is as hot as ever and Gabby has finally found true love. Highly recommend.

Out of the dark comes light

The second book in this series. A very moving and emotional story. This particular episode explores the trauma of domestic violence on all issues. The physical, psychological and emotional aspects. It is well researched and sympathetically written. The perpetrator Kyle shows no signs of remorse, guilt or reason to blame himself. History in these cases often repeat themselves, but that doesn’t make it correct. Only two victims. Marcel is a constant rock during all the turmoil, and is so understanding , loving and patient. Gabby is typically the victim, ashamed, guilt risen but eventually the lights turn on and reality hits. It is a well written descriptive novel, depicting some incredibly dark moments, but it is also a very passionate, romantic fulfilling novel full of warmth, happiness and delightful moments. There is drama, there is realisation amongst all characters that their decisions have a devastating impact on innocent parties. There is also denial. Gabby is a strong spirited lady, eventually and has to make some life changing moves. Kyle is a snake in the grass. Marcel is definitely a hero. Put this all together and you have the ingredients for a fabulous book/series with a glorious ending. Shanona is not afraid to tackle controversial subjects with flourish, tact and obvious research resulting in an excellent story.

Savour It

I have been looking forward to the second instalment of this duet so I wanted to savour it and take my time and not get through it too quickly. It was horribly distressing to read the Violent Domestic Abuse that Gabby went through at the hands of her vile disgusting husband Kyle. I think he got off too lightly and would have liked to see him suffer more for his crimes towards Gabby. Marcel and Gabby were made for each other and it was a very romantic and fitting end to the series.

This book is the perfect ending to the two book series. Gabby and Kyle had a toxic marriage from the beginning. Kyle was abusive mentally and physically but the final straw was when he raped her and kicked and punched her in the face. Gabby had had an affair with Marcel and when she left Kyle she had no where else to turn. Marcel was livid but Gabby convinced him to leave Kyle alone and let her divorce him. Of course Kyle didn't take Gabby leaving him to easy and he made threats but thank goodness never acted on them. All Gabby wants is to divorce Kyle and move on with her life. As things between Gabby and Kyle are bad, things between Gabby and Marcel couldn't be more perfect. As time moves on, Gabby receives her freedom and is able to move on with her life with Marcel. Things couldn't be any better and these two receive their happy ever after.

Readers and writers toss around monikers all the time, but Williams straight up EARNS the ‘Queen of Angst’ with this real, raw concluding follow up to the tour-de-force wind up, The Man I Can’t Have.
If I were to choose a message for this story—and there has to be a positive one to pull from the ugly gut-wrenching turns Gabby’s life takes—it’s that there is a romance within you. There is a mystery to how the human heart can survive and endure. Gabby’s remoteness is earned, from the vivid portrait Williams paints of her life that immediately follows the end of TMICH to the later developments as Gabby wrestles with a possible HEA, or more heartbreak. Williams choses to explore Gabby’s remoteness, the ease with which she dismisses Marcel, the ambivalence she extends to her family. This marriage has taken a massive toll. And Williams doesn’t shy away from examining it fully.
I’d label this a Recovery Romance. Because this is Gabby’s story from start to finish. And no detail is spared. She is stripped down and claws her way back. I haven’t read a more real story. Sure, Marcel is there, fighting for her. But he is a secondary figure, to Gabby’s transformation. He shares a tawdry backstory, and it’s complicated to ponder how far and long its effects will linger in his life. That said, Marcel is her standard, her scarecrow and tin man, the constant as Gabby makes her rite of passage trip into a woman in full.
I kept forgetting how young Gabby was, or how the choices she made weren’t always her own. Once she begins to make her own choices, her future becomes clearer and the hurricane of emotion this story yanks out begins to calm.
You’ll need all the time you can spare to read through this story. And congratulations to Shanora Williams. I can only imagine the feelings I had reading this story pale in comparison to those she explored teasing this story out of herself.
