The Man in Black (Chicago Syndicate Book 9) Kindle Edition
He consumed my mind. I never even crossed his.
From the moment I met Michael, mysteriously brooding and dressed like a dark angel, there was something electric between us. Or so I thought.
What I believed was a seductive and undeniably raw attraction has ended up being something else entirely, something I never foresaw.
Because he’s a skilled liar and a master manipulator, and I downright misread his intentions.
And now I’m afraid that falling for the man in black might become my biggest regret.
An overwhelming remorse haunts me after losing my fiancée, but I’m not a man who can afford to lower my guard.
I’m a ruthless criminal, one of the top members of the merciless mafia, the Chicago Syndicate, and I moved back home to keep to myself and do a job.
But when a curvaceous pastry chef with a beautiful smile and a possible link to my former life catches me in a reckless moment, I’m forced to watch her and strategize a plan.
Because I’m not sure if she’s out to get me or if she’s just an innocent civilian who doesn’t know that the restaurant she works at is actually a front to launder Syndicate money.
And I intend to find out if she’s playing me while I’m playing her. But then the demons that haunt me force me to make a huge mistake.
Deceit has a price—I just have to make sure I don’t pay with her life.

The delicious slow burn and torturing push and pull created an explosive chemistry between Michael and Brielle. I loved the cocky arrogance of Michael and stubborn independence of Brielle, it made for some entertaining dialogue.
Michael is fierce in his possession and passion for Brielle, their chemistry jumped off the pages. I was absorbed in this book from start to finish. It has action, intrigue, suspense, steamy sex and all the bits in between. I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend to those who revel in dark mafia romances with a bit of a twist.
Michael is still trying to over come his grief and the guilt over losing his fiancé so never sees Brielle coming.
There is, however, no fighting the instant attraction between these two. Brielle does an amazing job helping Michael heal and realize many things.
A great read!!!

Luca, Adriano, Logan, Henry, Carmine and Michael are the high-ranking syndicate management. They’re tall, dark and exceptionally handsome Italians. Ruthless, protective and possessive of their women. I was certainly hard pressed to have a favourite so gave up and loved them all. Each bought different dynamics, qualities and vulnerabilities
and their women Fallon, Cam, Rosalia, Mary, Eva and Brielle were ferociously strong, fearless, tenacious and loyal women.
This series is intense, passionate, with elements of violence as to be expected with any Mafia type book. It is exceptionally written, and each character and storylines are totally captivating and consumed my every reading moment.
I give each of the books within this series a resounding 10/10 (more if I could). Thank you Ms Naomi for a truly delicious read!
Soraya's done it again! I didn't want this to end.
Brielle's a beautiful soul and smart, easy going, but she's had her tough times. She's been on her own for 3yrs now since she was 18y/o. Since the sudden death of her parents. She moved from New York to Chicago, and she's the new pastry chef at Palermo. The Syndicates restaurant.
Michael's dominant, bossy arrogant jerk. Former boss of the New York Syndicate. He moved back to Chicago since the death of his fiancee and joined the Chicago Syndicate as a bodyguard/security.
Michael and Brielle's first meeting didn't go well. She points his own gun at him.
There's a pull between the two.
But Brielle is confused by his attitude towards her, one minute nice then not. But he intrigues her and she can't help feel more for him.
Michael's got it in his head that Brielle is there for ulterior motives. So he looks into her and has her followed.
She then thinks that he doesn't reciprocate the feelings. So she goes about trying to move on.
Meanwhile Michael's all mixed up about his feelings for her and his thoughts about his dead fiancee.
He then leaves to sort himself and his thoughts out.
Will they figure out their feelings for each other?
Michael also has to figure out who the spy is that the Mexicans planted in the Syndicate. Just like they've planted one of their own in the Mexicans Syndicate.
And Brielle is caught up in the middle of it.
But as she's smart and has been putting things together and figures out that somethings not quite right and these people are more than just restaurant owners.
How does she react when she finds out the truth?
Does she still feel the same for him?
Can Michael keep Brielle?
Who's the Mexican spy?
Do the Mexicans find the Chicago Syndicates spy?
Wow! This is a slam dunk for Soraya Naomi with this hot as hell dark romance book! This dark and suspenseful Mafia romance was astoundingly good! This was an awesome book packed with murder, mystery, danger, darkness, drama, suspense, passion and sex, sex—did I say SEX that is off-the-chart hot! This story is captivating, entertaining, and intriguing which also makes it very interesting and compelling to keep you glued to the pages of this fascinating story. This book was impossible to put down, and it will have you on the edge of your seat to find out what happened next. This is the first time I read a book by Soraya, but I assure you, it will not be the last. Soraya Naomi manages to weave grippingly dark and twisted plots with artfully developed main characters. Soraya did it with this dark romance by effortlessly transporting me to the turbulent and violent life of Michael Carrion, ex-Mafia boss of New York Mafia. Michael Carrion is so freaking SEXXY and HOT!! Pure pleasure. Dirty. Decant—sums up Michael and Brielle’s relationship quite succinctly. Michael moved to Chicago because he was grieving over his fiancée, who was killed in NYC. When Michael meets Brielle Duchenne, who was hired as the pastry chef of Palermo—owned by the Chicago Syndicate—Michael thinks she might be a possible link to his former life in NYC. Was she? Were Michael and Brielle bought together by fate? Will Brielle find out that Michael works for the Chicago Syndicate? What will Brielle do if she finds out that the place she works is a cover for the Mafia? Wait until you read what happens with Michael and Brielle—you will be astonished. This story is bloody, vicious, and enemies lurk waiting for a chance to strike and exploit any weakness. Michael and Brielle are drawn together like the proverbial moth to the flame and their chemistry is sultry. The scenes are well written, fast-paced and flow smoothly from one scene to the next while the strong charismatic characters draw readers in and refuse to let go. The story will also pique your interest and draw you in from the beginning to the very end. This is a definite MUST READ!
I’ve been waiting for this book for what feels like forever. I was a little worried that I wouldn’t remember who the characters were, but it was really easy to put everything together. Besides, even though this is part of a series, and it’s really awesome if you already know the secondary characters, it can definitely be read as a stand-alone as well.
We get to meet Michael in the previous book where he comes back from New York after the death of his fiancée. He was a boss there, but now he works for Adriano, who is the Chicago boss. He is not doing so well, tortures himself with guilt over what happened with Rachel, the girl he thought he’d marry. And that’s when Brielle enters his life. She’s not connected with the Syndicate, she minds her own business and is happy to have a good paying job as a pastry chef. She has no idea that the restaurant she works for is a cover for a criminal organization nor that Michael is part of that organization. She feels attracted to him, thinks he feels the same, and, because of that, we got lots and lots of drama, both personal, as well as Syndicate related. I can’t say more without giving spoilers away, but it was so good and I inhaled the whole story, couldn’t get enough of it!!
Long story short, I loved this book so hard. I really hope there will be a next one in the series :)
