For those quiet introspective moments in time?10 March 2017 - Published on Amazon.com
What a treat to the ears! Menahan Street Band are adept musicians that know how to make a statement with their suberb musical expertize. Each song on this disc titled," Make The Road By Walking " is like a masterful mini- composition" in an on- going screenplay that captures very distinct and suburban moods. The group's mastery of their instruments and the outstanding arrangements are to be applauded. After having listened to bits of their discs I moved on to other artists but found myself surreptitiously returning again and again to listen to a little more but ultimately by-passing them until I realized I was captivated by their sound. I guess my initial reservations could be attributed to an assumption that this was sedate elevator Muzak for old folks before my time. I am glad I got past all those assumptions and after repeated listenings in a extremely brief period of time I find I can't get enough of their New Agey jazz, fusion like music. If this is elevator music then it's one elevator ride that I would hope never ends....it only seems to being going up. An Excellent Work Altogether!

Perfect15 December 2017 - Published on Amazon.com
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. Every song is memorable and catchy and the musicianship is impeccable. There are very few solos, which is refreshing for an instrumental album. Each track is basically through-composed. I have heard this group categorized as 'soul' but there are a lot of influences here: film soundtracks, afro-beat, funk, etc. That's not to say it is just a mish-mash - they have come up with a very unique sound. Anyways, you can't go wrong with this!
Excellent record from an incredible band that will restore your faith in music1 February 2017 - Published on Amazon.com
Though I slightly prefer their second record, this is a brilliant piece of work. The band plays together brilliantly, the compositions are textured and nuanced, and the mastering is excellent. I can't recommend Menahan enough. Definitely best enjoyed on vinyl.

Tear 'em up Instrumentals17 August 2013 - Published on Amazon.com
After digging the Sugarman 3 and the Budos Band, with apologies to Sharon Jones, I figured I needed to complete my Daptone trifecta by buying the Menahan Street Band CD also. Not only am I very impressed, I'm pretty much gobsmacked, blown away and energized by these vivacious, lively instrumentals. It's a heady mix of Soul, Funk, and Acid Jazz, sounding like it originated in Superfly's backyard. Some critics might call this sound too derivative of bands from the 1970s, but I'll take that sort of heartfelt inspiration any day of the week. Plus, these guys can really play! Real instruments, real soul, real grooves. Jam on it! This one's a keeper!
