Design of A Lifetime was okay, but it was too short to allow for much character development. Karina and Cooper meet on the elevator at Macy's. Karina is running late for work and Cooper holds the elevator for her. She is instantly attracted and so is he. He arranges to have her gift wrap a bunch of presents he has bought for his mother and sisters. He comes back just before closing, they have sex and a month later they are married.
Pull My Hair was a much more developed story. Liza and Greg have been married for 7 years. It seems they have lost the spark in their marriage because of issues Liza has problems facing in her past.
Liza has created a perfect image of for herself that isn't real. Greg is tired of feeling like he doesn't really know who his wife is. As they struggle to come to terms with the issues in the marriage, Liza is forced to face her past. Greg lets Liza know he is no longer happy to live in the fantasy she has created. As Liza struggles to face her past, she discovers she has lost track of her own purpose and goals. Ms. Kaye takes us through their journey to rediscovery, with some steamy sex thrown in along the way. Pull My Hair was a good story, but I still think I like Just Like Candy better.
Pull my Hair was about a married couple that gets caught in a rut b/c of the wife's inablity to truly get "naked" for him. In other words to reveal her past to him which he needs to know so he can "know all of her". Becuase of her inablity to do so it strains their marraige. And to top it all off, he is working late trying to make more money so she could have a good life (since he knows she hated being poor) and all she wants is to be with him.
Design of a Lifetime is about a woman who hasnt had sex in a while and yearning for some. Her friend, Liza (the lead in Pull my Hair) tells her she shold try to broaden her horizon (do a white guy) which is exactly what happens. It was love at first sight and was pretty much about the hot sex rather than any real plot but still good.
I found it difficult to enjoy the second story also because I found the female lead so unpleasant. Yes, she had a rough upbringing, Yes, life is unfair, Yes, hurts experienced in youth can scar you for life; however, the character just did not garner any sympathy from me.
A very interesting aspect of the book was how toward the end, Ms. Terry introduced characters that will be the focus of Ms. Terry's book Just Like Candy.
All in all, it was a quick read, less than one day (admittedly, I did skip the sub plot) Not only are Make it Last and Just Like Candy BW/WM interracial romance novel, they are also, rich man/poor girl fantasy novels. Where can I find guys like Ms. Terry's characters?
