Product description

Product Description

The first book in the incredible new series from the author of Percy Jackson, the Kane Chronicles and Heroes of Olympus.

My name is Magnus Chase. I'm orphaned and living rough on the streets of Boston. And things are about to get much worse.

My day started out normally enough. I was sleeping under a bridge when some guy kicked me awake and said, 'They're after you.' Next thing I know, I'm reunited with my obnoxious uncle, who casually informs me that my long-lost father is a Norse god.

Nothing normal about that. And it turns out the gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Apparently, if I can't find the sword my father lost two thousand years ago, there will be doom. Doomsday, to be precise.

A fire giant attacking the city?

Immortal warriors hacking each other to pieces?

Unkillable wolves with glowing eyes?

It's all coming up.

But first I'm going to die. This is the story of how my life goes downhill from there...

The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan is the first book in the projected three-book Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series. This young adult mythological fantasy from the author of the Percy Jackson series bears striking resemblance to that earlier series as Magnus Chase, much like Percy Jackson, is living a normal life as a teenager. He has been on his own, surviving the mean streets of Boston, since the death of his mother. When Magnus Chase turned sixteen things around him gradually changed, putting him in dire situation as it was revealed that his father is a Norse god. Well, just imagine how it would feel for a homeless boy to awake to the knowledge that he’s the son of a Norse god. But that revelation also put his life in great danger.

When something tragic happened to Magnus Chase, he is taken to Valhalla by a Valkyrie where he joined throngs of heroes. But Magnus is not done with life on earth as he has an ongoing task which must be finished whatever the price is, and in the process comes into contact with an ex-Valkyrie girl named Sam. What is at the heart of the story is the prized ‘the sword of summer’ which Magnus Chase must lay his hands on before others get it. For fans who have come to associate author Rick Riordan with fantastic and stupefying mythological tales, beasts, monsters, battles, action, adventures and violence in all its hue and shapes, this book is the stuff dreams are made of. It’s everything you’d expect from Rick Riordan.

The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan is hugely entertaining, beautifully mounted, fast-paced, and full of dramatic and riveting action sequences. What I particularly like about the book is the first-person narrative from the perspective of a single narrator which makes it less confusing and easy to understand.

It was a surprise reading this book. I could not put it down as it went in all different directions and enjoyed every minute of it.
Off to start second book.
It's for every one but probable more aimed at teens. Short chapters easy to read in chunks.

This is the book. Yes, not any good old book that you pick of your bookshelf but an amazing array of words and light. I read it in all of my spare time & just love the way it is written. I didn't expect this much effort after bestseller Percy Jackson or The Heroes of Olympus. Wow, just wow. Can't wait for the second book to come out sometime this year!!!!!!!

This is the best book yet. I have read all of Rick Riodans books but I coudn't stop reading this one, the plot's awesome. I cant wait till he relates this book back in with the others, Magnus Chase with Annabeth Chase. ( hint hint. From Percy Jackson )

I loved this book and all (Most) of it's characters! Action and humour are essential to a great novel, and I could not put this book down. I was sad to finish it, but looking forward to the rest of the series!
