One problem we ran into right away is that after each use a few drop of left over milk always seems to drip from the nozzle. Over time these accumulate into a messy puddle in the fridge. Kinda annoying, but not a deal killer. We ended up positioning the container in such away that we could place a small towel under the dispenser nozzle to catch these annoying little drips. Once we started doing this, I've been much happier with it.
A couple of other minor complaints: 1) the rubber seal that attaches to the container is not very tight. It always feels a bit awkward to get attached just right. 2) the pump mechanism displaces more liquid than you may realize. This means that newly opened milk or juice containers will have emptied slightly to accommodate it.
These issues aside, I'm happy with it and the kids love it.
Still enjoying the magic tap. Some additional considerations: battery life is very good. I'm still on my first set of batteries. On the negative side, cleaning is a pain. We use it for milk exclusively, and after a while the nozzle and clear rubber tube that extends down into the container get a nasty film from the milk. Especially the nozzle. The instructions say to use hot water to flush this out, but I found that that doesn't really do the job. I started using a tooth pick in order to scrape the inside of the nozzle clean, with limited success.
All in all, still happy with the purchase.
----------- Update 12-9-13 -------------
I finally gave up on the Magic Tap. I found the continuous chore of cleaning it too much of a hassle. I even went as far as buying/using pipe-cleaners to help clean the harder to reach sections of the nossel, but even that was a pain. I'm reducing my rating from 4 to 3 because of these further realizations. If the constant cleaning doesn't bother you, then you may still enjoy this product. It was a good run, and the kids did enjoy it.
Edit* 5/28/13 - After using for a little over a month, I'm getting rid of this. While the concept is great and it worked for the purpose intended (so my 6 year old can get his own drink,) it just is too difficult to clean. I've used this for approximately 6 gallons of milk. Between each new gallon, I have promptly washed the outside of the tube and ran hot soapy water through the inside of the tube and then rinsed clean before using for the next gallon. This is the only way to clean it since you can't physically open the tube to clean inside. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, I noticed it is starting to smell sour because the inside of the tube just isn't getting clean enough. It's too bad the tube wouldn't detach so it could at least be soaked.
My opinion - if you're using for a drink that won't spoil, it should be fine. But, I would stay away from using this for liquids such as milk or juice since it just can't be cleaned well enough.
Well this product is super convenient it grows mold and you cannot clean it I have made sure to run water through it after each use I had it in a gallon of milk and an apple juice jug and both have molded over the course of about five weeks I’m super bummed because this is an awesome product but I became very ill and couldn’t figure out why and went and looked at the magic top and sure enough there was mold growing in it I threw both of mine in the trash along With both jugs of milk and juice!!! There definitely needs to be a better way to clean these and directions or something
