A fiancée's betrayal has robbed Antony of all his money and half his magic. Jennia's determined to find her old love; Antony's determined never to love again. No romance, no sex, just business--and a near-uncontrollable desire for one another.

Jennia yearns for his rock-hard body, and her sweet curves drive Antony crazy. More, they're falling in love. But they keep on searching for Jennia's betrothed, and Antony keeps pretending he doesn't care--until he finds the missing sweetheart in the worst way possible. He has to make a choice that could lead to happiness for her--and catastrophe for himself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smexy short read 11 December 2014
By K. April Holgate - Published on Amazon.com
This is a quick read but surprisingly well crafted. It has a great story that is well fleshed out. I was easily enthralled from the beginning.

The fantasy elements are interesting, smexy magic toys, oh my!! Plenty of steam here. Mostly solo action with the toys. Loads of voyeurism! Hawt!! Be ready for a cold shower!

The story is a mixed narrative, mostly from the POV of the two leads. It gives plenty of insights into the dynamic of the relationship. It has a nice build to the feelings and made the story really sing. I am not always into fantasy, but this was a great story.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Audrey Lusk, who is delightful! She has a wonderful pace that keeps the story moving along. I love her energy in this read, it makes the story pop. The steamy parts are very well done. She has a real feel for the naughty romances and all their nuances! Yummy narration throughout!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot and Steamy Read 29 April 2013
By Angie Lenkevich - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Book exchanged for an honest review:Jennia Wick is Weaver apprentice with one week left in her contract before attaining membership into Weaver's Guild. Jennia is made an offer by Master Romnel and his son that she simply has to refuse which only means that she'll never attain guild membership. Antony Onyx, a member of Mage Guild, sees a young woman running away offers her shelter for the time being in his wagon. Antony is intrigued by Jennia and her story. Antony doesn't want trouble from the Weaver and Mage Guilds for harboring Jennia. Antony is an unique mage he sells distinctive line of toys~sex toys which are very popular. Antony asks Jennia to be his assistant in demonstrating them. Jennia relunctantly agrees. Will Weaver Guild find Jennia? What consequences befall Antony? Will Master Romnel and son get what they deserve? Will either Antony or Jennia admit their feelings? Your answers await you in The Mage's Toy.

I loved loved this story! Who would have ever thought to use magic in this way? Certainly not me that's for sure. The Mage's Toy is wonderfully crafted story that is fast paced and quick read. I loved both Jennia's and Antony's struggles with admitting their feelings for one another. I applaud the author for taking Jennia's and Antony's relationship slowly instead of wham bam thank you ma'am style. I look forward to the author's next work.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Mage's Toy 12 November 2012
By PMBL - Published on Amazon.com

I had already read Lovers and Beloveds by this author and I really liked it, so when I saw this book pop up on a giveaway I figured it was a no-brainer. I was also interested to see what the author could do with a shorter work. Lovers and Beloveds (An Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom) is a long novel, while the Mage's Toy is a novella.

Well, I have to say I did enjoy this story. And yes, there was a story. It is an erotic romance novella but you definitely get a good story and a romance along with the erotic element. In fact, nothing actually happens between Antony and Jennia until near the end. Oh yes there are erotic scenes before that but they involve the demonstration of the magical sex toy.

Though I enjoyed the story there were a few things that made me go hmm... such as Antony's name suddenly becoming Anthony several times in the story and a goddess who pops up out of nowhere with an easy solution to a dilemma that I thought was, well, too easy. There was also a bit of dialogue that didn't make sense to me. I kept reading it to see if I missed something, but I'm still not seeing it. None of these things were showstoppers for me. I still think it was a good story and it fit the length well. It didn't feel rushed like some novellas can.

Whenever I think about how this story plays out at the end, it always reminds of the short story The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry. I'm not comparing the two stories because they are not the same thing at all, but it is the theme of doing something selfless out of love and how love itself is the true gift. Yeah, can I be more dorky? Why yes, actually, I can... but I digress.

So yes, overall I enjoyed this story and after reading a couple of Miranda's works now, she is definitely on my watch list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! 5 October 2012

I really enjoyed this book! It was a rather short read so I could have used a longer book but the author gave you everything you needed to know and didn't add superflous information irrelevant to the story. I like that. The opening scence where Jennia is running from her apprenticeship and everthing that goes along with it is an attention grabbing introduction. This book is quite detailed and does drop the "f-bomb" so if those things offend you terribly in your literature this may not be the book for you. I LOVED the storyline and cheered for Jennia the whole time. There is a bit of tumult around exaclty who she will end up married to making it all the more interesting. If you love a good extra steamy romance this one is for you!
