Twenty three episodes, many of the issues raised complex - sensitive agendas requiring careful diplomacy. Everything remains very topical: Russia most threatening (interesting developments there!); Ukraine resorting to extreme tactics to avoid invasion; trouble in Syria; suicide bombers; cyber attacks. Much else besides.
Plausible? A keen fan of the show is former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who also guest stars. She praises the authenticity of the White House scenes and depiction of how crises are handled. (One in the eye for critics who claim these do not ring true.)
I enjoyed both seasons very much. Some of the scripts are occasionally a little uneven, but generally they are great. Tea Leoni and Tim Daly head the fine cast. It warms to see the McCord family pulling together despite pressures that so easily could tear them apart (Henry's conscience deeply troubled in a particularly moving storyline). Also especially appealing is the portrayal of Elizabeth's team - splendid chemistry evident. Guest appearances enhance. A favourite? For me it was Rene Auberjonois in Episode 14.
Bonuses include a forty five minute discussion about the new series, including a question and answer session. Keith Carradine as President Dalton offers a tour round the Oval Office.
Salute here a series where nothing is simple and where duplicity is rife. Ruthlessness abounds amongst those craving increased power, not to mention amongst those who have reached the heights and intend to stay there.
Much thus to open eyes and to provoke thought.
Great drama, amazing acting, great camara work,
story lines based on real world events and situations.
The writer said they wanted to portray the ideal Madam Secretary but also show the family and married life.
The spoke to three actual female Madam Secretary's to find out what it was really like for a woman in office in the white house.
Tea Leoni is vibrant in this role. it's like it was made for her. And what a classy woman !
do they do that in real life makes you think
